Moncton Night Life

lacedsatsuma wrote on 7/7/2006 7:28:36 PM :

I have recently moved to Moncton and single once again. I am going through this forum to find interesting things to do and just what is out there to check out. I don't think I am interested in a PACE singles dance.. but would like to know exactly which places in Moncton are recommended to go out and have a good time just to mingle around. ANY SUGGESTIONS????

Best not to rile up Doug McDoug. He may be one of the mellowest people on the site but I know he would be very hard to stop if anybody really got him going..

Willie, tell me it ain't true.
You have a knock-em-down-drag-em-out watering hole called the "Rockin Rodeo"?????
Yeeeewwwwuuuu.
I think I have to go brush my teeth.

The "not-so-likely" place to go here in the Ottawa area is the Club Resto-Bar, in Gatineau. Just a short drive over the bridge and a long leep in better judgement to actually go there, unless of course you're a bouncer on your night off or just someone with enough hutspah to figure that life is fleeting.

Fine, the music may be the best thing since you heard Mattie Pryor or the Rolling Stone live...but, remember, is life fleetinng?

Oh, did I mention that Gatineau (from Ottawa) is on the "Dark Side." (Heavy breathing - Darth Vader style). KAYBEK! Serious oxygen deprivation going on there these days.

I'm sot sure if it's a knock-em-down-drag-em-out watering hole or not, but it can get quite rowdy at times, especially about the end of the month.

Todays music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock n'roll
Dont try to take me to a disco ( Rodeo??)
Youll never even get me out on the floor-(-packed like sardeenes)
In ten minutes Ill be late for the door
I like that old time rock n'roll

Still like that old time rock n'roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock n roll

Wont go to hear them play a tango--( or Hip Hop)
Id rather hear some blues or funky old soul
The only one sure way to get me to go
Start playing that old time rock n'roll

Call me a relic, call me what you will--(I'm an Antiquity)
Say Im old-fashioned, say Im over the hill-(Its all downhill now)
Today music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock n'roll

I was at the Rodeo last Friday night around 11pm.
The Love of My Life draged me there.

Packed to the gills.Could barely move on the dance floor.
Half the people dance with their drinks in their hands,(I thought there was a law against that). The dance floor is wet, slippery and sticky. If you should slip and fall,..Gawd help you.

Music..one Rock n'roll,a couple of Country, and the rest was Hip hop to the likes of 50cent,(who we all know is more than 50 cents short of a dollar.

Whatever happened to a Slow Dance ? (Waltz)

A lot of boppers there, showing off their booty.( Gawd ,I AM old)

Old men by the droves, constantly whiping the drool way.

If you are looking to "Connect" or " Hook up" for the night,Go there.

Now I must admitt, that my Love of My Life, did enjoy herself,it is all a matter of taste.

Awesome ..????  Yeah Right.

Who has to go out for entertainment.? I get to stay home and listen to the police calls to some of the bars on my scanner. I'm probably a bit biased in my opinion but I think I would stay from the Rodeo on a busy night (Unless I was a police officer responding to a call).

More charges laid in nightclub beating
Last updated Apr 6 2004 03:25 PM EDT
CBC News
Another suspect has been charged in connection with the death of a Moncton man almost eight years ago.

Thirty-one-year-old Steven Joseph Bastarache is accused of manslaughter.

A second suspect, 27-year-old Anique Comeau faces one count of manslaughter and one count of assault causing bodily harm in the death of Marc-Andre LeBlanc.

Marc-Andre LeBlanc died after being beaten outside the Rockin' Rodeo nightclub in the summer of 1996.

Family members such as Leo-Paul LeBlanc are relieved people are finally coming forward with information.

Leo-Paul LeBlanc remembers the day he found out his nephew Marc-Andre had been badly beaten outside a Moncton nightclub. He was working on the roof of his house when his wife called up to him to give him the bad news.

"I almost fell off my ladder, I'm tellin ya. We rushed right off to the hospital and when we arrived, he was already in a coma. And a few days later, he passed away," he said.

For years, the LeBlanc family urged people who might have seen the beating to tell their story. Leo-Paul LeBlanc says he heard as many as 30 people were in the crowd outside the club and witnesses were too scared to talk. Now, that's changing.

And for the second day in a row, Marc Andre's mother Gilberte sat in a crowded courtroom, watching as another suspect in the case stood before the judge.

"You know, when it happens to one, it stirs up things, and people are talking, and coming forward," she said.

Gilberte LeBlanc says she hopes the arrests will help shed light on exactly what happened nearly eight years ago.

Police say there will likely be more arrests in the case.

One man has already been sentenced to six months in jail for assault causing bodily harm in connection with the case.

Police probe Elmwood Dr. beating

A man is in serious condition with head injuries after being beaten early yesterday morning.

The 24-year-old man is not from Moncton and police don't think he knew his assailants. He was walking with a woman on Elmwood Drive, in front of the Elmwood Motel, when trouble started a few minutes before 3 a.m.

There was some kind of argument or exchange between the man and three other men. That led to the assault.

It isn't clear if the victim or the other three men were at a nearby bar, Rockin Rodeo,  where the problem may have started, or if this was a random incident.

"We don't know where it all started or if they just ran into each other on the street," .

At this point, police don't believe any weapons were used in the attack. The man's head injuries could have been caused by punches, kicks, or striking his head on the sidewalk. It's not known what caused the argument or if all three men attacked the victim.

"We don't know if all three will be charged or if they were all part of the assault," . "We're still in the preliminary stages."

The woman who was with the victim was interviewed by police yesterday .Moncton's, Codiac RCMP are looking for more witnesses. That will include talking to staff and guests at the motel to see what people saw and heard.

"We're putting all our resources into identifying the suspects and questioning them on their involvement," he says. "Did all three pound on him or just one?"

I have been to the rodeo.. and really.. because it is a busy place that it attracts all kinds is why it can be regarded as a risky place.. this stuff can easily happen at any other place such as the Vodoo or any other...

I find that the Vodoo ... essentially is a market for people.. it appears to be anyway... it would be nice to find a place in Moncton to go that you can actually mingle instead of yell at people that you would be interested in talking too...

Every cowboy is a "ladys man" or a "puppy" at heart. Both depending on how much beer they have had.
In the absence of beer (Hang on Willie, you may or may not like this.) most cowboys I have met are honest down-to-earth, small "c" conservative types that only care that the government stays out of their lives and the beer is cold.
Oh, yes and I was moved out of Calgary when I was three years old. Did I mention that? Maybe not...well I had been to three Calgary Stampedes!
I was in my twenties when I returned to Calgary and partook in a Stampede. Aside from the animal cruelty, I quite enjoyed myself! The beer was cold, the women were country/city and the times were good. Not one incident of the over imbided participant.

And now, back to the Forum....
