Police dog found dead after manhunt near Moncton

RCMP are investigating the death of a police dog that chased a suspect into the woods near Moncton and never returned.

An RCMP emergency response team and Rain, a police dog, were dispatched Saturday after police received reports of a distressed man armed with a gun near Hillsborough.

The German shepherd got away from its handler and pursued the suspect into the nearby woods, said RCMP Sgt. Maurice Comeau.

Comeau said Rain scuffled with the suspect and bit him before the man broke free and fled.

The suspect was later arrested, but the dog was nowhere to be found. It wasn't until the next day that officers discovered Rain's lifeless body in the woods.

Comeau said no shots were fired during the scuffle, and it was not immediately clear how the dog died.

"The gentleman who was bitten is a suspect, but we won't know to what extent or what his involvement was until we get the results of the autopsy," he said.

Those results are expected Monday.

The investigation is still underway and no charges have been laid.

the said incedent was in baltimore on route 915 in hilsbourough  this is a copy and paste from the RCMP news release that i get from them.

Man charged with weapons offences, Baltimore, N.B.

Hillsborough RCMP have charged 25-year old Dana Clark of Baltimore, N.B. with four weapons offences in relation to a gun complaint in Baltimore, N.B. on July 22, 2006.

It was during this incident that Police Service Dog ???Hrain??? was killed. The weapons charges are not related to the death of the police dog, but were laid as a result of a search warrant that was executed on the property during the incident.

Mr. Clark faces one charge of unsafe storage of firearms and three charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm. Clark has been remanded in to custody and sent for a five day psychiatric evaluation. His next court appearance is set for August 4, 2006, at 9:30 am in Moncton Provincial Court.

No charges have yet been laid in connection with the death of the police dog although the matter is still under investigation.

since Hrain  was a member of the rcmp will they be charging his killer with murder of a police officer?

To kill an animal is most certainly inhumane!

Unfortunately, killing children while yet in the wombs of their mothers isn't a crime.

I have to respond to your comment WWJD. It is not the same thing and that's why having abortion  isn't a crime. Men can not even voice their opinion on that subject because they are not the one thats life changes. Being a chick that got pregnant young, I would not have had a abortion but I do believe a woman should be allowed to make that decision without having to have grief from anyone (she'll have enough of that on her own) I would rather see some crack chick have a abortion than bring a child into this word that she only ruinned way before the baby came out. It doesn't matter what the reason is. If you want to get the big "V" operation done it's your choice right. Well same goes for women. (I do think that once you have a abortion, getting a reversable fix should be done to insure the same mistake won't happen)

Fair enough... choice is choice.

The hard thing is living with that choice.

I can't imagine how one feels after such a procedure.

I think compassion is also in order for those individuals.
