Ban FEDEX AND PUROLATOR planes after midnight!

They should do what Toronto does and close the skies after midnight...it wakes me up and my kids! PHOOEY PHOEEY on Fedex.Purolator.

At least the old cars had muscle and 8-track players or cassette decks......not 170 horsepower and 2,000 watts of sound. Drivers actually heard their motors.

I have to say, we're quite lucky for this one. We live on the same street as the fire station. After abround 10pm they actually wait until they're past the heavy residential section to turn the siren on. They only run the lights. I love this place...heheBig Smile [:D]

They used to like stopping me. I've always had loud exhausts. Even my old moped was loud. My mountain bike has a very good exhaust system on it. (Too bad I don't.)

What about people who work night shift and try to sleep in the day. All planes should be grounded in the day while they sleep too. Also no lawnmowers. Just thying to get some controversy going here. It's too quiet with Bulert in school. Oops, I guess it's 5:00 pm. I think I'll go hide.

BUT....the choppers racing down the street rattling the glasses off your shelves, baaaaaaaaah nooooo those aren't loud at all ! No reason valid enough to ban those now common....their quiote motorbikes with $1500  freakin' ROCKET MUFFLERS !!! But let's ban the car ones that need to be at least 1/4 km away to be heard, because the 25mile away motorbike that you hear, is just not valid enough for us to put a ban on them !

But what about the snow plows in the winter. You think the planes are loud ha ha ha I have to laugh at that. The snow plows are not only loud due to the size but they are always backing up doing those beeping sound. It's all things we have to live with. The more tech we get the more noise there will be.

I totally agree. But according to whom ever started the thread, i think those are too loud for them adn should be banned. They are defenatly louder than those planes (which I have lived right under the path of the planes adn never once did I awoken because of it, and I had just moved from the country) If the planes can wake you up. I think it's time to go see the doc for something to help you sleep cause I bet your not having a good night even if it is quiet.
BristolUK wrote on 9/29/2006 9:27:01 AM :

How about those cars that go "THOOM THOOM THOOM....THOOM THOOM THOOM THOOM THOOM" changing the 'pitch ever so slightly? There's a guy in and out of his home in my street, curiously, several times a day (including 1.00 am) and I always thought it was his stereo with a really heavy base. He leaves it on with his car door open until he's ready to go inside his house.

But the other day there was a car beside me, idling at a red light light, while I was on my bike and I heard the same THOOM THOOM thing but there was absolutely no music there, just the thumping thing. So what exactly is it? And if it's so loud outside, what the hell's it like inside?

Mufflers are designed to make noise so the driver will think his $199.97 Walmart stereo is a real sound system.

In order for them to be able to make their deliveries they have to use those times. I'm not sure about Purolator, but I know that FedEx has an incredible system in place for getting your stuff where it needs to go. And to do that, they have to fly during the night hours. That's also when nn-peak hours are when they can get flight time and not interfere with passenger flights.

I can sympathize with you, but I think it's just one of those things you have to get used to or think about moving, if it's an option...As for the kids, if they got used to sleeping with music on, they may become less sensitized to the sound of the planes. Just an idea and maybe something to try

WHOA WHOA WHOA.......notme's onto something there!  Didn't they ban loud vehicles in Fredericton recently?  Why not province-wide??  It pisses me off when some clown goes racing down my street at night while my little girl's trying to sleep before school the next day, with a muscle car and no muffler and those completely pointless sub-woofers blaring on 11.  To top it off the music's crap.  lol

My house is in the flight path to the airport too, although we're uptown and nowhere near there airport - I still hear those planes.  I keep having nightmares of planes crashing into the University of Moncton campus.  But there really is nothing that can be done about it.  It's part of the sacrifice of a growing city.

oldman wrote on 9/27/2006 7:25:50 PM :

BlinkeredKitten wrote on 9/27/2006 8:10:12 PM :

Here's a suggestion:

a) Ground the planes after 9pm - that's probably bedtime or later for most young kids.

b) Move all that cargo by rail/truck after hours.

c) Observe FED EX and Purolator losing business and cutting jobs.

d) Complain because the local economy is going to he** in a handbasket.

e) Blame the government.

f) Wait in line at the welfare office. Get to know the former pilots/flight attendants/etc.

g) Complain because child support payments are late.

h) Ban sirens on emergency vehicles at night too. I've lived in Moncton. I know the sound of an ambulance in the middle of the night. It woke my baby. We learned to cope.

i) Turn off your radio and TV when the kids go to bed so they don't hear any noise at all.

j) Put the kids to bed with earplugs in place.

k) Turn the phone ringer off at kids' bedtime.

l) Put a muzzle on your puppy so he doesn't bark at anything after bedtime.

m) Don't use the microwave for heating snacks/hot drinks after bedtime. That beep can be pretty piercing.

n) No washers or dryers after bedtime either. After all, if other parents can support their kids without working at this time of night, you can too.

Get my point? There's more noises going on than those planes. A mom of 4 knows that when you don't bother keeping the house quiet to GET them to sleep, they learn to STAY asleep with whatever's going on. Put a relaxation CD in their room, and put it on repeat overnight. It will give them something soothing to listen to if/when they do wake up and will get them back to sleep pretty quickly. Before you know it, they won't even hear you yelling in the morning.

like get used to the noises of the city or move out of it and you will still have noises that will wakeup you kids

I've seen more muscle on a beer belly than on those so called modern muscle cars with tin cans welded to their mufflers. Bring back a '70 Dodge Charger with a 440 six pack and watch the Hondas hide. Honda rules the track in the 4 cylinder class but are no match for the 8 cylinder big boys..........Nuff said.
