#$@&*$#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
k... seems i'm a little bit of a wireless virgin here... i have my own network in my house. Does that mean that someone can tap into our network and hook up a wireless connection if they live nearby, and if so how close? (I live further out of the city).
I don't know much about it myself but I believe any signal that be transmitted can be recieved, sometimes by the wrong people.

people can certainly do that. How close of a range? That depends upon how much noise there is in your area. By noise I mean trees, houses, wires etc (anything that can obstruct the wireless signal). Typically, in an urban setting wireless signal from a home router can be picked up 100 ft. away. If there are no trees and oter obstructions, 300 ft.
What do you do to protect it? Type:
http://192.168.0.1 it will bring you to your router. There, goto Wireless settings, and make sure there is a password protection on your wireless connection. After you do that, you generally don't need to worry about your neighbours using free Inernet.
Cheers!
