Effective January 8, 2007, smoking outdoors will be prohibited at all City of Moncton facilities.
This includes all buildings, parks, and fields. If you wish to smoke, you must do so in a parking lot, and you must remain at least 10 metres away from all entranceways and walkways within that parking lot.
Thank you for your cooperation!

yes notme i agree with you i myself do not smoke around people who do not want me too but to me it seems like the choices are all one sided and always thought we all had a freedom of choice but it looks like it is becoming clearer that a few have the final say in this matter this is one oldmans opinion and i would really like to know what freedoms are next on the old chopping block
oldman wrote on 12/29/2006 9:42:41 PM :
one more little note if they are going to take this ban to the limit why not demand that all city employees be non smokers

Turn by turn the thumbscrews just get tighter and tighter. Soon you won't even be able to break wind at a bean festival.

Most smokers pay taxes. They should have the right to have private, well ventilated, smoking rooms in public places. What if a chain smoker can't quit smoking for 10 seconds and wants to pay his water bill. Now he can't even get close enough to tie his cheque to a brick to toss it through the window.
willie c wuddle wrote on 12/30/2006 6:08:33 PM :
What next......No smoking in your car because you might have an accident with a car full of non smokers? No smoking in crosswalks because non smokers are within 3 feet from you?
Bulert wrote on 12/30/2006 6:24:04 PM :
well most non smokers pay taxes and we have a right to an addiction and scent free enviroment and should not have  to endure the disguting smell of smoke.

WELL here is my two cents again like it or not  I as a smoker respect the non smoker as oldman has stated I do not smoke around people who dont smoke and if I go to someones house that dont smoke I WILL NOT SMOKE  and I DO NOT BLOW smoke in a non smokers face. And bulert as a non smoker i respect that and im not stating by any means that its a good habbit BUT ALL CANADIANS should have the right to smoke or not to smoke This is supposed to be a free country NOTTTTTT  all we need now is the hammer and cycle flying at city facilities. As a tax payer and a voter i helped bring in this GD goverment And I can help take them out. IT really pi$$es me off  as a citizen  to think that our rights are slowly being taken away And yes thats whats happening weather it be for smoking, or anything else that the goverment wants to take away. And yes willie I agree "WHATS NEXT"  Any way thats all I am going to say and Im sure that some people will not like it but I really dont care Big Smile [:D]

Fireman, you are obviously a considerate smoker. Unfortunately, many aren't.

Well I do respect others  wether it be for smoking or anything I just think that the city parks are for the public and we pay the taxes to help maintain the said parks, So in thought that makes the parks ours to right?  I can see if its inside like tims or bars. But if I am sitting on a park bench enjoying the day and having a smoke and a non smoker comes and sits beside me I am not going to leave. I think I am going to pay city hall a little visit Big Smile [:D]

Well Bulert is absolutley right. So I say lets do something about it. I dont mean just for the smoking I mean everything that they try to push on us. I as a smoker DO NOT believe that smoking in a place such as a park, where we as tax payers help to keep the parks maintained will do any harm. Just look around at some of the cars these days, Blue smoke spuing from the tail pipe, In the winter the people that heat their homes with wood and the smoke comming out of the chimmeny. If we as people that want things changed , We need to do something about it. So this said I am will ing to take it upon myself to gather names and present it to city hall in person. All it takes on your part is to sign your name. Like bulert said we live in new brunswick that is not a bad thing, the bad thing is the goverment is pushing things on us and all we do is sit and complain about it. Well enough is enough But I cant do it on my own, What is just one person going to do We ned to band together as a group to fight for our rights. If we dont try we have nothing to complain about. So I am going to put a post on here so anyone who wants to that is in moncton can sign their name and it will be delivered to city hall by myself. Lets get the word to the goverment that WE ARE FED UP with trying to push things on us.
