Hi,
i was wondering if anyone could tell me a few things about living in Moncton. My husband and i are thinking of relocating to moncton with our young son and are really curious how it feels to live there. so i was wondering if anyone would mind sharing good or bad things. it would really help make this huge decision!!
thank you
Kimmy
Moncton is a great place to live. Big enough to not be bored but not large enough to have the troubles of a big city (although it's starting). We're 15 minutes away from the ocean (Shediac) if you ant to get away from the city. Property is a good price, the people are friendly and the food is good :D
Downfalls
Depending on where you're coming from you're bound to see, long hospital waits, horrible roads, decent amount of snowfall in the winter and large class sizes in school. Our public transportation also sucks :(
Overall I would consider it a GREAT place to raise a family. :)
I have lived in ontario, nova scotia and moncton, and i prefere moncton over anywhere else.
If you have a young son, then he will have lots to do. We have open public pools indoor and out, park groups, boys and girls clubs a large YMCA centenial park ( man made beach, childrens pool, walking trails, boating, and several diffrent parks inside the park itself. tennis courts, andmuch more) Thats justa few things for your son.
I would choose a residence just outside of Moncton, I live just outside and it is a lot safer. We have Champlian Mall, which compared to the malls in the east coast, it is enormous. We have great night life, and the people here are generally friendly. Our school system is great ( I am currently in it so don???t listen to anyone who tells you different) That???s a little of the positive.
Now a little of the bad. Do not walk the streets later than 1 am in greater Moncton. Ever. High teen and young adult drug use. Our roads suck. And buses are slow
Thanks for the info!!
We currently live in Montreal so im sure there is a huge difference in crime level. im just glad you were honest in letting us know. that is a big factor in choosing this path. we're tired of big city. but are not necessarily looking for small town. so moncton felt good..
where is a good place to look for a house.. safety, price, location wise..
Thanks
hello,
we're looking for a quiet area thats easy enough to get to work. and somewhere we can get a nice family home .. hopefully near parks or schools. our son is still very young (15 months) but parks are definatly handy :P
thanks for your advice/help :)
Moncton is great for raising a family, getting an education, or to retire to. But job/career wise it sucks. Unless you think food service/call center is a career. :-/
I am currently living in Riverview and its very nice, very layed back, fairly quiet and its very close to the city.
u should chose from 3 places A)Dieppe its right next to Moncton its a city but smaller than moncton Dieppe is pretty much the suburbs of Moncton traffic though is bad B)Riverview its right across the Petitcodiac River and its a nice medium size town but traffic thier is bad thier is only one major road thier C)North West of Moncton the magnetic hill area is a very good place.

The_Boiz wrote:Yeah they were very nice and helped us in any way they could. They were honest and for a mother and daughter team was very impressed honest to the point. I only delat with RLP no one else I was told that EXIT is known for their "screw ups" but RLP I give them 10/10 very professional
I have to answer that. We used Exit. Maybe it was just their guy (Phil Albert) but he was brilliant. We were so impressed we used him a 2nd time to buy our duplex for renting out.
We moved here from Longueuil. No regrets at all. We're near Rinzlers of Mountain Road (the best shop in Canada). None of the family drives and despite what people say, the buses are cheap and reliable; serving shopping centres and cinemas. For a 'big shop' we bus to the store and taxi back. Taxis are cheap. We have 3 huge stores for groceries etc within 15 minutes by cycle; you'd be surprised what can be carried by backpack and handlebars.
The biggest problem with buses is going out of town. Either you're not left with much time wherever you visit or an overnight stay is involved. Parlee Beach is good and while it may seem a lot to get there by taxi, it is less for a family than the bus and there's no 'parking' fee, so that offsets part of the cost. What we spend on taxis is a fraction of running a car...although I recognise there are some disadvantages in not driving.
Property is cheap and attractive. Crime is seemingly non existent. People leave their cars unlocked everywhere, windows open and even keys in the ignition. We've lived here a year and I have read of only one street mugging in all that time.
The road surfaces are far better than Montreal's and snow clearance is fantastic.
Downsides? Just one garbage collection weekly. No nearby 'big city'. No cheap flights to Europe from the airport.
Oh yes...mosquitoes.

Glad you like Rinzlers. The owner once lost his hat. I found it and returned it to him and he gave me 2 of the tastiest steaks you can imagine. Since then I've always liked the place and have had many a happy barbeque as a result of Rinzlers. As an added bonus it's conveniently located on the way to the Mountain Road Beverage Store.
I love Riverview.. I grew up in Moncton but enjoy Riverview more.. Its more of a small town feel.. I just bought a house over here they have great schools and lots of programms for children. If your looking for a house. I just bought one.. Here is my real estate agents website. She was extremely helpful and really worked to find me what I was looking for. I highly recomend her..
