COWBELL HERE

macdoug wrote on 8/10/2006 8:38:22 PM :
I was listening to some of my favourite RockinRoll last night and I couldn't help but think of my friend Bulert.

The music was Thin Lizzie. The song was, the Cowboy Song.

Bulert! have you heard this tune? I ask you, does the chorus sound like there should be (or is there?) Cowbell on the downbeat!

Yours in cowbelldom.

Hello. I am getting my own cowbell this year. I am going a school band as the cowbell player. The only percussion I can play. I want to try drums. I have never heard it. Maybe ill download it when I get free time..

Hello Macdoug. I don???t see you much anymore!!! Nice to hear from you though! Whenever you hear a cowbell playing a beat..think of moi

I always think of you.
And, lately I can not listen to a piece of music, be it Back or Bachman Turner Overdrive and not think of you and cowbell!

This weekend, a buddy and I got together. He has a studio, guitars, amps and a drum kit. We laid down a couple of tracks for Bulert. Cowbell and drums. Cowbell, drums and guitars. When we get it sorted out and the levels evened out, I will send you a copy.

KEEP THE BELL CLOSE TO YOUR HEART and don't ever say, "it's the only".

Why not try the drums???!!!!! Go Girl!
If you can carry a beat on a cowbell, why couldn't you teach your own self to carry a beat with your feet and hands. Okay, none of the above are playing by the same rules...but, ain't it a lot like life? One hand not knowing what the other is doing? TRY IT!

Like my saying goes: Nothing in life is so exhilerating...
Well the same saying also goes: You can not win, if you do not play.

You need help? Call me. I will be there for you. Okay, maybe not in person, but I can surely suggest and give you counsel. Drumstick weights, tuning, ...what will be.

Macdoug, drummer, longtime. Cameroon Highlanders, even!

Bulert.
If there is one thing in this crazy, cockeyed world that I have found to be a constant inspiration, beyond messed up marriages, and the usual pitfalls of life, is MUSIC.
I have collected musical instruments since I was in grade nine. I stll have a pair of bongos that I bought in 58. I have colleceted, probably to my own detriment, musical instruments since grade nine and I have not regretted one moment!

Find yourself a way to pay for and acquire the music!
God loves you when you play, he will embrace you when play and sing.
Macdoug.

I love music in general. I love to listen to it, and to criticize. I do not like pop music. I do not like R&B or Rap. Everything else is A-OK!! I am content listening and appreciating, but playing may be in the cards for me when I have money to buy the supplies

I agree with the "pop", and "Rap"! There is nothing more dismal than listening to either pop or rap...they both seem to be fingering an anal approach to life. One quietly trying to infiltrate your senses and the other trying to infiltrate your life by squaking mundane, anallgesic, HATE for themselves, their society and their reduced role in society. Besides, RAP is not music! Rap is disotonic reverberation of words and beat which does not achieve a disonant level to become music. It is merely words and wind. Or more likely just wind and wind. There is no creativity. There is no reason. There is no reason for its existance.

When Bob Dylan began singing (if you can call it singing) in the early sixties, he ryhmed words with music and a feeling, which (and here is the important part) meant something to, or was reckognizable as a song to the millions of people who heard him.

Rap, is loud, obnoxious, nothing to say, unimportant, blarg, produced and sung by individuals who by their own importance have nothing to say, other than the repetative, monosyllabic, rantings of the obvious. When this doesn't work, they (the Rappers) resort to louder sound and more vernacular words to try to pass a point. Where Joanie Mitchell would paint a picture a Rapper would paintball a crime scene...Oooo. I would give joanie a listen well before I would give any BILLIONAIRE (***) rapper the sweat off my ... woh, sorry Bullert!

SUPPLIES: Yes, you must. Start with what you can afford and go from there. One cowbell could lead to a drum kit, could lead to a trumpet, etc....

"Gather around you your friends, your comrades, those that make you challenge and explore and expand your own boundries. Whether they are people or instuments." Martha, (from Martha and the Muffins)

In an effort to misquote Alabama:

If you're gonna rap in Moncton, you gotta have a cowbell in the band.
'Cause Bulert hates rap music, and she'll diss you as quick as she can.
So get your cowbell from ole Bessie, or things could end up quite messy.

Cowbells cowbells everywhere,
Hear them ringing in the air.
If they get loud I don't care,
But ring them too early I will swear.
