Check out these local bands....and give some feedback if you like

Morse Code Alphabet

Instrumental rock, influenced by bands like moneen, Q and not U, Mock Orange, Faraquet, Weights & Measures, and lots more..... The idea is to show that we dont need words to make good music. At the same time, it forces us to be more creative musically rather than just strumming the same 4 chords over and over. Only one song online at the moment but there is more to come.

The Umph

Formerlly known as Jonahh, the songs you'll find on this link were recorded before the line-up change that occured in Jan/Feb of this year. Jonah, now backed up by 2 new members definitely offers more Umph (or pizzazz, bite, crunch....whatever you want to call it) to its listeners than before. Check them out at the Paramount Lounge on April 13 w/ Shortsleve and Secret Agent

We got talent here:

Morse Code Alphabet:
Today is a good day:
Today is a good day to crank that tune up. It to me sounds like a cross between surfboarding music and some good old Deep Purple.

The Umph:
Justify Me:
It starts off with a neat Simon And Garfunkle type sound then evolves into kind of a Stone Temple Pilots type sound. I like it.
Holding Out:
Kind of makes me want to buy a car with a two or three thousand watt stereo and let it blast.
You Blew It:
That one sounds familiar. Catchy tune. I think it has a lot of potential. Too bad I can't download it to my hard drive.
Cut:
Nice sound. Sounds a bit like Black Hole Sun.

Thanks for the little description/review. I probably couldn't really describe music myself....

willie c wuddle wrote on 4/4/2006 9:55:14 PM :
I'm no expert when it comes to music. If I like something I play it. Glad to see, I mean, hear live bands are playing in local clubs. I thought we lost them back in the great music depression (those disco eighties). Those days were scary. Anyways, rock on.punk [punk]
Vlad Drac wrote on 4/4/2006 9:59:30 PM :
There are lots of local bands that play bars/clubs in this town. I should post some of the upcoming shows in here.
BillyBob wrote on 4/5/2006 6:38:56 AM :
Can you buy this music yet or is it just for your friends?

MCA is planning on having an EP available by the end of summer or so. You can probably get The Umph EPs at the shows (next one is April 13 @ the Paramount) if Jonah remembers to bring them. If you're interested, let me know. I could hook you up.

I don't know if there is a specific hang out for bands but I see a lot of guys from local bands at the Paramount/Manhattan on a regular basis. I'm sure you could find a lot of them hanging out at Doc's or Nav's, or any other watering hole.

Hmmmmmm, I thought I heard tunes playing last night. Was it a private function?
Vlad Drac wrote on 4/16/2006 7:07:27 PM :
Yeah, it was at a friend's house in the Elmwood area.
willie c wuddle wrote on 4/16/2006 7:10:49 PM :
I thought you meant it was at MCA. It must have been my landlord's stereo I heard.

Haha, no I meant Morse Code Alphabet
willie c wuddle wrote on 4/16/2006 7:15:15 PM :
OK. I get it. MCA is near the old homestead. It is almost a curling stone's throw away if i had a catapault.
