Survivor...Race divided

Celeste wrote on 8/29/2006 9:08:05 AM :

I don't know how many of you have heard this news so I am bringing it to you all. This coming season, Survivor ("reality" show) will be dividing the competing teams in a...well...unconventional fashion. They are going to be dividing the teams by "race" this season.

Personally, I am really surprised (and abhorred) that anybody actually thought this was a good idea. I heard about this a few days ago and I am still shocked.

My biggest fear is people will start "rooting" for "their race" and we will see more of this white pride bullshit and other reactionary things.

My biggest hope is that nobody cares to watch the show and we'll see it fade into oblivion. If not that, then my second hope is that the "master race" gets creamed by the "mud races."

Any thoughts?

I Can't wait for this. It should open peoples eyes a little bit to some of these issues and spark some conversation. These are all willing parcipitants. Don't start crying foul yet.

The participants are willing to do it but it's all the rest of the racist world that's going to have a problem with this.
Bulert wrote on 8/29/2006 9:14:36 AM :
I think that, it is going to cause some major debate and discussion. I am shocked at the idea though! We spent years and years trying to fix racial division, yet we start this? anything for money in TV
Cautiouslizard wrote on 8/29/2006 9:16:27 AM :
I agree. Totally think it's wrong. Race should never be a issue anymore cause we are all the same inside.
Bulert wrote on 8/29/2006 9:18:03 AM :
I never quite got why race mattered, we all have hearts, we all bleed red and we all cry when we are broken hearted, so why does it matter? Oh because a mans skin has adapted over years to help in in the warm climate where most of his race lives? It is pointless

I asked myself why am I so shocked? But lets face it - it would surprise anyone in this day and age that such a major corporation is doing something this controversial. Maybe it's from the "no publicity is bad publicity" standpoint. Maybe the feel more people will watch the show this season just to see what will happen.

It could also lead to a hugh backlash for them...
Survivor sucks, as does all reality TV.

I totally agree. Survivor should have ened a long time ago. The first season wasn't too bad (it was a change in tv shows) but year after year it's getting old. They just want the public to come back adn watch but they should really just end it now before they start something bad.

It seems like a racist idea to me. I don't believe racial segregation benefits anyone.

Besides, if most of the producers and editors of the show are white. It's bound to be unfair.

Hollywood is well known for their racism.

Oh well...

Maybe that's why they call it reality TV because that is the reality of it all at the end of the day.

There will be a debate, did they stack the white team with harvard law students wihle the black team is from inner city compton? This show could actually do some good if they cast the teams with a wide range of personalities and backgrounds.

The idea is not racist in and of itself.

Cautiouslizard wrote on 8/30/2006 7:19:01 AM :

They can always pick people with different personalities and background but does it have to be divided by race?

Because it gets ratings. This could be very good for destroying stereotypes.

I am with Faulty on this.  The network is relizing that the show has been around for a bit and this is a way of getting the audience, if anything, people will tune in on occasion to see if anything does transpire or just out of plain curiousty at a show that is taking a huge risk and yet a step backwards at the same time.  This would expose people to many cultured as well that they might not have been exposed to and or break stereotypes.  As much as I was shocked by this tactic myself i am a Survivor watcher (yes I admit to this)

Take a look at Big Brother, for anyone that watches ..Kaysor has exposed many people to his culture and taught many people though this diserfication in a very positive mannor.  He is one of the favorite people to have ever been on the show.

All in all..wait and see what happens
