"It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, howerver satisfying and reassuring."

Discuss.

That was really intriguing. You cant guarantee those stats are true, but I cant guarantee they are not. i think the meansing of " fool" is diffrent in this case however
WWJD wrote on 8/11/2006 3:53:31 PM :
With that, Bristol, I agree 100%.

Post varying ideas and let the reader decide.

You have a great point there!

Hmm..you agree...

Remember the old war saying "There are no Athiests in a fox hole".

Here's what it says on one Athiest's grave stone: "All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go".

Uh oh.  I like it though. I thoroughly enjoy the divorce statistics. I especially like the fact that they threw Angelina Jolie in there. She's arguably one of the most selfless human beings since mother theresa.

I think it's just to emphasize that Atheists are good people like everyone else. I actually think that people who believe in God are just as crooked as everyone else. They just think they can get away with it because they pray and go to church.

So what is it, Vlad... are people "good" just like everyone else or are they "as crooked" as everyone else?

You seem confused.

PS: The reason so many who "believe in God" are crooked is because they were like me... I unfortunately was one of the "crooked ones" for years.

Then, because of God's Grace, I was no longer only one who TALKED ABOUT and BELIEVED IN the Lord God... I repented and was converted from being a hypocrite fake to a Child of God.

So, true to form, there are false Christians; I was one of them.

BUT, there are also TRUE ones, which I am and practice, as do many other true ones.

However, there are as many crooked people EVERYWHERE, not only Church.

Not confused at all. I believe that anyone who is relatively "good" can be "crooked" sometimes and vice versa. Nobody is perfect. To me this was to show that Atheists are not any better or worse than any religious person (at least not based on their religious beliefs, or lack thereof).

As quoted in the movie, I would rather try to grasp the realities of this world rather than trying to find reassurance in the Bible. To me, the Bible is the same as any other "spiritual" literature aimed at making you feel better about everyday life. Like everything else, I take it with a grain of salt. I can't really see myself living my life based on every rule or belief stated in the Bible, or any other piece of literature for that matter.

You see... you said "TO ME", showing your statement to be based on what YOU feel...not on fact.

It's not about what something feels like "to me"....it's about, "Is this true or NOT?"

Hmm, the bible and creationism is still held as a theory by many of the leading intellectuals world wide. It MAY be right, but then again it may not be. You believe it is. Doesn't make it fact.

WWJD wrote on 8/10/2006 8:52:07 AM :
Well, Faulty, I'll put it like this:

I was a fake "Believer" for years.

I couldn't prove anything if I tried.

Then, about a year ago, I was converted.

Now, it's been just over a year and I've not lived in any type of blatant sin or wickedness...and no one can show me that I have.

Why?

THAT is the biggest truth of Scripture.

Repent, Believe and place your Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who died on the Cross and rose from the dead.

A changed life is the result of the Scriptures.

He changed mine and He can change anyone's.

THAT is the biggest and most profound reason for Scriptural belief anywhere.
Faulty wrote on 8/10/2006 8:54:26 AM :
It's still based on faith. I've had experiences that have changed my life and they have not been spiritual. I'm a good person too :) I don't feel guilty or regret things I've done in my life. I have a solid set of morals and beliefs. They're not dictated to me by a book. Does this make you a greater human than I? You cannot prove gods existence anymore than I can disprove it.

NOTHING can be "proven".

We "prove" things by using evidence.

This is how things work.

In thsi sense, the Bible is loaded with archeological and scientific evidence.

Also, who said I thought myself to be better?
Faulty wrote on 8/10/2006 9:22:46 AM :

Yep, and there's evidence on both sides of the debate. You've taken your side. The entire point of this video is to show that people who do not believe in god do wonderful things in the world. Angelina Jolie would probably be sainted if she was christian. Howevery many christians seem to hold themselves above these people even if they haven't done NEARLY as much for humanity as them.

What are you trying to say here? I never said I was stating a fact. I made sure I said "to me" because that is the way "I" see it. Are you implying that the Bible can be backed up by facts?

Not at all.. I'm just not interested in being bated into a debate at present; that's all.

FYI: Our team JUST got together and is putting up a video response to "prove God exists"...

Stay tuned for the link :)

It doesn't have to. As long as alternative views are put up people will have more information when making choices.
