Did The Lord Jesus Always Answer Questions When Asked?

WWJD wrote on 10/16/2006 1:02:25 PM :
I sometimes feel it unprofitable to entertain certain discussions (not often though!) that I feel the Lord would have me step away from, as He Himself avoided answering certain questions on certain occassions.

Some would say that it's not a very godly, good or proper thing to refuse to answer questions when asked.

The Lord Jesus Himself would say that such a mentality is improper as He Himself never entertained certain questions, as seen in the following:

Matthew 21:22-24

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Mark 11:27-29

And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, and say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things? And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

And so He didn't refuse to answer .. He just made it conditional. Wink [;)] Now get back in there, WWJD - it's your moment to shine!!

It's not profitable... because neither you or I are understanding one another, but emotions are beginning to shine through, on all sides, more than Christ's love; for that reason I have difficulty staying in such a discussion.

Emotions are bound to show through on issues of such importance. Doesn't mean that discussions should stop - just that we should be reminded to control ourselves. Thanks!

*ahem* *squares shoulder and walks proudly back to the helloween space*

I think Jesus knew he'd be talking in one ear and out the other ear of a lot of people. That may be why He always talked in parables. You didn't just hear His answer you would be given the chance to think about what He said. I think he answered questions but it was up to the asker to interpret them.
