French furious over TV show The Canadian PressNovember 21, 2006
MONTREAL - A Quebec television comedy sketch portraying a hunt for smelly French people on the streets of Paris has sparked outrage in the province and at least one complaint to the federal broadcast regulator.
The segment on the TVA program "On n'a pas toute la soiree (We Don't Have All Night)" showed a safari hunt for "damned French" and described the people as stupid loudmouths.
In the episode airing last Sunday, comedian Eric Salvail prowled the streets of Paris in hunting gear. To attract his prey, he brandished a block of foie gras while yelling "come and eat, damned French!"
Salvail caught a Parisian named Pascal in a net. "I will now take this beast back to my cottage and put him on my mantle," Salvail said.
In the studio, host Varda Etienne helped douse Pascal in perfume and dip him in a tub. She touched Pascal's hair and marvelled at how greasy it was, even after a bath.
