The Beachcombers on DVD

SwampDonkey wrote on 9/30/2006 8:46:37 PM :
Anyone know if CBC will release The Beach Comber series on DVD? I have read in the Internet Movie Database that CBC has been approached by one of the original series actors (Jackson Davies) to put out a few of the best episodes on DVD. I know TV-Land had aired some epidsodes awhile back from the mid 80's seasons.

Yeah, it's about making a living in a small coastal community in BC called Gibsons. Which is actually a real place there. There are a couple a rivels Relic and Nick who own boats that they use to harvest beached logs, called beachcombing. This was a common way to make a living in BC. There are lots of laughs and adventures and real life situations. Everyone hangs out at the local diner called Molly's Reach where alot of plotting and scheming goes on between the central characters, just trying to make a living by trying every angle to do it. Big Smile [:D]

I learn something new every year. For years I thought the area was called Molly's Beach. After I finally realized my reading error I assumed the area was called Molly's Reach. I never knew it was called Gibson's. I'll be a son of a beach.

The series ran from 1972 - 1991, making it the longest running series on CBC TV. It was very popular to watch it around here as we all watched it as well as the old Walt Disney shows. Apprently CBC has trouble rerunning the shows as they think it doesn't fit the current demographic. Hmm, sure would fit NB demographic as most the population is in rural communities, small towns and villages. I'm not even interested in most of the CBC offerings they show now. For some reason they think a newfie running around the US and Canada making a fool of himself is great TV.
