Not our War / Not our Fight ?????
Not our War / Not our Fight
We have heard this so many times.
I'm curious .
So let me post a Hypothetical question.
Just what would you be willing to fight for?
Pick an answer or post your own...
1. To protect my family
2. Friends
3. Neighbours
4. Fellow citizens
5. To protect those in need, whereever they are.
6. Some of the above.
7. All of the above.
8. Nothing, my own personal safty is paramount, screw everyone else, but I do reluctantly acknowledge that I am kept free to do so by better people than myself.
9. Your own opinion here...

Re: Not our War / Not our Fight ?????
It would have to be "hypothetical" as I'm an old poop.
I would (and do) FULLY support the Canadian military's traditional role, that being defense of country, and peace keeping directed by the UN. I personally do not support GWB's personal adventure into Afghanistan and Iraq (and strangely neither does the UN), and do not feel that we have ANY business being in Afghanistan, or Iraq period. I do not believe that there is anything in Afghanistan worth 1 Canadian life, never mind the 60, or so, being there has claimed, and *think* GWB should clean up his OWN messes.

Re: Not our War / Not our Fight ?????
I would (and do) FULLY support the Canadian military's traditional role, that being defense of country, and peace keeping directed by the UN.
So you would have opposed our involvement in World War 1 and World War 2? I'm sure that attitude would have trilled my Polish parents and relatives.
The U N isw now so corrupt and immoral, that the sooner we pull out of it the better.Nato is our only hope left.
I personally do not support GWB's personal adventure into Afghanistan and Iraq (and strangely neither does the UN), and do not feel that we have ANY business being in Afghanistan, or Iraq period.
The UN is no longer controled or influenced by democratic / free countries.
No business being in Afghanastan or Iraq? Yes that is an popular opinion nowadays. Short sighted in my humblest opinion, but hey, there are no so blind as those that will not see.
I do not believe that there is anything in Afghanistan worth 1 Canadian life, never mind the 60, or so, being there has claimed, and *think* GWB should clean up his OWN messes.
One drop of human blood is a tradgic price but history has repeatedly shown us that to live free, we must be willing to sacrifice. If you are not willing to shed a drop of blood or risk losing lives for Democracy here or anywhere, then you don't deserve it.
I do aggree that GWB has gone about it all wrong. I would have pulled the troops within 24 of reaching Bagdad after leaving a message that if they did not clean up their house, we would be back with a vengance.

Re: Not our War / Not our Fight ?????
"So you would have opposed our involvement in World War 1 and World War 2?"
I would (and do) FULLY support the Canadian military's traditional role, at the time we were closely tied to Britain, in fact close enough that Britain made a lot of our foreign policy, Britain went to war, and so did we. Hindsight being 20/20 our contribution was little more than "cannon fodder".
"The U N is now so corrupt and immoral, that the sooner we pull out of it the better.Nato is our only hope left."
I do not believe the UN is corrupt and if so, far less corrupt than a NATO led by GWB.
"No business being in Afghanastan or Iraq?"
I do not *think* that history should be ignored. The Russians had nothing but "fun" in Afghanistan, are we too proud (or stupid) to learn from the expierience of others?
One drop of human blood is a tradgic price but
history has repeatedly shown us that to live free, we must be willing
to sacrifice.
Oooh! history is good now? And for what? Those folks in Afghanistan don't have ANY difficulty letting us know we are not wanted there, just like the Russians before us. Democracy? Where? In Afghanistan? Give me a break. As long as we insist on being there giving them free stuff, and pumping money into their economy, they will smile and nod their heads, once it (the free stuff and money) stops they will go back to what they were. Those folks have been at their form of government/lifestyle/customs longer than there have been white folks in N America, and you *think* by throwing money and free stuff at them will make them change? Give your head a shake.

Glad you think so highly of our contribution.

I will attribute that resposnse to your leaning so far to the left that your head is stuck in the sand.

Re: Not our War / Not our Fight ?????
For the record...
In a democracy we do have the right to disagree..
To me that is worth fighting for..

8.
For the record... I am a "realist", who does not *think*, or assume, that forcing my way of life, my thoughts, or ideals, on a group of people can result in anything but dissappointment. People, I might add, that have had not days, not decades, but centuries, to develop a system that works for them. I'm sorry that I'm not like you: arrogant enough to believe that "my" way is the ONLY way.
Glad you think so highly of our contribution.
But at least I *think*, and know that the contribution made by vetrans merits far more than draging them out, and dusting them off, once a year. These vetrans are the "elders" in our community, an untapped resource that we have/are ignoring, much to our peril.

Reveeen wrote:I'm sorry that I'm not like you: arrogant enough to believe that "my" way is the ONLY way.
My way? Which way are you refering to ?
Believing in democracy and not in dictatorships or communism?
Or that I support fighting for freedom and democracy?
If that makes me arrogont , so be it.
I have studied enough history , politics and war, to know what I am talking about.

Re: Not our War / Not our Fight ?????
Pull out of the UN? Absolutely out of the question.
UN = United Nations
Remember what G.W.B. said (as you seen to be so far leaning to the right your head is stuck in the sand, that you must be a supporter of his): "If you're not with us, you're against us." If Nations are not United, they are divided and against each other. Better to be United in my opinion, even if there may be some corrupt players in the game.
But G.W.B. enjoys ignoring the UN as well, and would probably have the U.S. leave if he thought it could be pulled off without every other country seeing it as an act of war against the world. After all, the UN only slows the U.S.A. down in their efforts to eradicate "terror".
