Is Highfield Square dying?
I work downtown. And I often walk to Highfield Square on my lunch break. I love C'est La Vie cafe's wraps, and teas. yum! Plus I get my hair done at the Razor's Edge. I love that the mall is smaller, and not so crowded. Anyway, I am sad to see more and more stores seem to be closing in the mall. Latest is Deluxe, with Better Buys closing soon too. I hear so many rumours, from they are closing the mall, and a casino is going there, to the Bay is closing but the mall is renovating, to it will be all call centers. So what is the buzz you all are hearing?

Re: Is Highfield Square dying?
I didn't know there was a Deluxe there. I would have bought a lot of cheeseburger platters had I known. I think Moncton's first mall is slowly dying but it lasted a long time. Sobey's owns the mall and moved out their store. Sobey's was a good drawing card for Highfield Square. I remember that place was booming a few years back.

Re: Is Highfield Square dying?
It is a shame to see it go down like that....
Soon we will have a " Ghost Mall " .

Re: Is Highfield Square dying?
When you have big box companies popping up all over the place who really needs a mall anymore?

Re: Is Highfield Square dying?
Do people really prefer strip malls now do you think? Driving from store to store? Another romour I just recalled is that Highfield Square will renovate to be a market type strip mall at the street level(on Main)with store open to the street, and still an indoor mall at the back. I am not a shopoholic, but I do prefer indoor malls. Champlain is to crazy busy for me.....I guess I will be stuck with strip malls and big box stores.

Re: Is Highfield Square dying?
Do you mean another big display case with shelves that resemble benches for Tim Horton cups?

Good point Willie. But, I hear it goes with the "close Main street to cars, and an open air pedestrian mall idea. Who knows. Guess we just have to wait an see. A casino could be good for downtown, but parking is still an issue.

Really? I missed that. Well that sounds promising. I did read Sleuth in the T&T Saturday(well I read it Sunday...haha) too something about renovations, and that some stores may need to temporarily relocate. I just hope the stores that are left hang on. I think good things are going to happen Downtown. I hope!! I love shopping downtown.
