How would you deal with this situation:

We got new neighboors (ok maybe not so new, like 3 months ago) and they play their music pretty loud, but we don't complain as my boyfriend has band practice in the house (only until 9 pm once a week) Anyways, since the nice weather started, they hang out on their porch right on top of our door and walk way.

The other night, we were leaving for a gig and noticed they were all up on the porch. Then as I was getting into the car, one of the guys spit directly down onto our walk way that leads under their porch to get to our door. Not a minute later my babysitter walked out, if she would have came out half a min. sooner, the guy (I would guess between 30 and 35 years old) would have spat right on her. He knew we use that door as we had just finished walking out throught that door a min before he decided to spit. I warned my babysitter that he had spat right there and told her to watch it. Well I got up the next day and my son told me that that same guy had been trying to stip on them most of teh time they were outside.

To make matters worse, we then discovered ciggarette butts (they looked really gross, like they had spat on them) directly infront of out door (seems like they shove them between teh cracks of the porch) We had just finished cleaning the yard cause we wanted our yard to look decent. They don't even bother to throw them to the side or anything. Seems like they are doing on purpose.

What the hell am I to do now? I'm going to talk to my landlord about it, but not sure if there is anything that can be done. I'm scared that one day I'll get a clam spat on top of my head, or on anyone else that comes by.

If they decide to get even worse, I'm scared that they might just start throwing their ciggy butts (lit) down and it will fall on someone that is coming in out or of our house.

If you have any advice, I could sure use it.

You could always try talking to them.  Maybe they'll respond to reason.

I guess the landlord should be alerted too.  It is his building and he's renting it to both of you, and he has an interest in having you keep paying his rent, so he might be helpful...

Yeah I'm defenatly going to talk to my landlord, but I don't think I could reason with a 30 some year old guy that tries to spit on kids (my son told me that once we were gone that the same guy had tried to spit on them afterwards) So for someone to do that, I don't htink he will listen to me or even be civil to talk to.

well if he tried to spit on the kids  ,get proof and charge him .....

I can't see having them charged as helping. That will just make things worse. I think the landlord is the best option. Maybe he has an idea how long they'll be there? Maybe they don't pay rent on time or there have been other complaints and this will help him take action.

Don't wait until rent day, contact the landlord ASAP.

 well if somebody would spit at my kids (well know my grand kids ) i would either punch them out or charge them  just to show them thaat kids are people too  AND SHOULD BE RESPECTED

Well I'm a girl so if I punch him he won't puch me back (well I would hope anyways) and if he does, well then I'll have to break open my karatee don't you think ( I grew up with boys so I got used to getting a beating lol).

I know this may sound crazy but you may have to consider moving. When you have neighbors like that the only way I see getting rid of them is leaving. They are useless, worthless nuisance, and what are you going to do with them, really. Spitting at anything at that age is obnixous. Call the landlord but my guess is not much is going to happen. Good luck with it though.

I don't disagree. But it's easy for us to pontificate. We're not the ones suffering this behaviour and it's not us facing a possible escalation of harrassment and retaliation.

you see that is the problem with canadians they are afraid of retaliation ad do ot want to disturb anyone even if the results of the harrassement are disturbing to us   the good old chicken wayout or is it the canadian way out   sit back ad cry

What you siad is ridiculous. Why are we Canadians affraid of retaliation? The whole point is to find peace in this very turmoil moment. I fail to see how retaliation will solve this issue, please do tell us all.

very easy anything we do   has a good sideand a bad side so if we are always afraid of the bad side of something nothing will ever be done   and we will be walk upon just like we are now and will be forever  ...as long as we have this attitude

The only reason why I havent' went to talk to them (with my baseball bat) is cause I'm scared they would wreck my  car. I know it's being chicken but they don't have a car I can wreck back (believe me, I ain't no sitting down person and have no tolorence for this kind of crap)

I'll talk to my landlord first (and we are his best tenants and he wants to sell us teh duplex) and advise him that if it keeps up, I'll have to take my 900$ rent (which the others only pay 550$ due to being a tad smaller) somewheres else where my kid can have no worries about spit or ciggarettes.

I'm sure my landlord will not be too impressed by that and anyways he's trying to keep teh place looking good, and that ain't working out with ciggy stubs everywheres
