My dog passed away at the age of 4 with cancer. It came from Elmwood March, 2002. I figure the whole litter had it in the bloodlines.

Thank god they are closed. FYI the former owner sells puppies out of cocagne on Kijiji.

To the person who replied , "I hate rats", when i suggested reporting the dog abuse to the spca, How truly childish and uneducated of you. It is our responsibility as human beings to protect the helpless. These animals are just that and they only legal way we have to help them is to report suspected abuse to the proper authorities. The easiest thing  to do would be to turn our heads and ignore it, and while you may be able to live with yourself  by not helping the helpless , I am a better person then that so I will do what I can to help them. I would also report suspected abuse of a child to the proper authorities. Would that make me a rat too?  Please grow yourself a backbone.

Speaking on Notme's defence I honestly don't think he meant that comment towards you. That's just part of his signature that shows up on all his posts.

Yes but see his apparent stance is "following the rules and reporting the breaking of said rules makes you a rat"

Whether it's the rules of a forum, the rules of monopoly, the rules of a society, municipality, province, nation, etcetera should not matter you either follow them or you don't, you report breakage of them or you don't.

I've been trying to get a job at Pet's unlimited for quite a while now. Im not for the selling of animals but helping them is better then doing nothing at all right ? Im the biggest animal lover and I think that's why I can't get the job. I tell em everytime how much they mean to me and I think they're scared if they did hire me, i'd report any tiny little abuse or how these people don't care about anything but the profit. And trust me, I would tell on em if anything bad happened. I have been absolutely DISGUSTED by the Pets Unlimited on Mountain Rd, Moncton.
Here is my story...
Two and a half years ago my boyfriend bought me two Pug puppies from Pets Unlimited. (if I knew he was going to buy puppies we would have gone to the SPCA). We were told that they were 100% "Pure bred", they came with papers and that they were two and a half months old.(They cost well over 1000$ EACH)
When I took them to the vet she said they were NOT even two months old and that they should have stayed with their mother longer.
I returned to the store to get their "papers" which they conveniently "forgot" to give my boyfriend. They told me, laughingly, that they NEVEr said they had papers and that NONE of their dogs are pure bred. I was shocked that they would lie and that they could get away with selling these dogs for just as much (or more) than legitemate breeders!!!
When the pups were about 6 months old we noticed that one of them walked funny. We had an x-ray done and realized that his elbow was severely deformed.
Since Pets Unlimited "guarantees" their dogs I went to talk to them. The manager was good at his job...he was SO full of S**T and patronizingly "polite" I wanted to vomit. He told me that the dogs are only good for a month and I should have had them x-rayed as soon as I got them. Who does that?! He said it was my problem and I could take it up with the people they got the dogs from. He was unable to tell me exactly where thay came from "somewhere in Fredricton". Im thinking the big puppy mill in Fredricton (the surgeon in PEI agreed)...but who knows. As if anyone would just trade their pet in for a new one after bonding with it for a month!
So in the past 2 1/2 years...Tony the Pug has had MULTIPLE corrective surgeries to attempt to make him comfortable. We have spend thousands of dollars just on this leg of his. He also had to have his wrinkle above his nose taken out because of chronic infections. He ALSO has an eye condition which without eye drops twice a day he WILL go blind.
His sister, Sadie, has breathing problems and often has "fits" caused by not being able to breath.
Its not the money that bothers me...its the innocent animals that have to suffer because of the lack of CARE.
If someone cares for animals they should NOT support puppy mills or anyone that breeds animals unresponsibly.
I go in to the store on Mountain Rd once in a while just to see...I was there a couple days ago...the puppies cages were full of urine and fecees. Some of the dogs were in the dark because their light had burnt out. Even the FISH looked half dead. I just CANT believe it. I lay in my bed at night and PREY that someone puts a stop to this hell.
You would think that someone who owned a pet store might even LIKE animals...at least enough not to neglect them.
I think when they first opened they sold dogs from the SPCA...not any more. I wonder why

I am thinking of applying there for a job this summer, but not for the money really, just so I can help them. I heard someone say that they applied there, and they thought they wouldn't hire them because you love animals? I believe that they would do that, for the reasons you stated.

I want to help change Pets Unlimited on Mountain Road, and warn people when they are trying to buy a pet to research it first, because most people there don't even know the names of the pets they sell.

I was there one time, and this guy was showing me the lizards and he started hitting them cage with his fist really hard. Then there was a gecko on the window next to him, and he smacked the window and he fell into the grossly green water dish. it sickens me how badly treated those animals are.

If there's anything I can do to help please tell me, I want to help.

The Pets Unlimited on Mountain Road is a terrible pet store. I have never been there when the animals have fresh water. Never! If I say anything to a clerk or the manager it is met with "It was changed this morning.", or "It is due to be changed shortly." B*** SH**  If that WAS true I would have seen fresh water sometime when visiting! The birds cages are filthy, the dogs pens are filthy, no water. The rabbit/guinea pig pen is urine sprayed and filthy. The glass is cloudy with urine. The fish are unhealthy. The kids working there care more about socializing than learning about the poor animals in their care. Even if they are told to lie to customers, they CAN give good care if they care!! They are as much to blame as management.
Since the new guy (Eric?) took over as manager the store has gone downhill. One by one the employees who cared and were knowledgable left. They had a really good fish and reptile guy, and a great gal in the bird section, and a caring gal in small animals....all gone!

I try to avoid buying anything there, but I go in at least three times a week to check on the animals.

 Global Petfoods is pretty good, but lacks some needed items. I buy there(Global) if possible though, and online before I buy at PU. They are my last resort.

We bought our kid's hamsters there though. So far they are healthy. But I searched online for local breeders first. Found none, sadly!

It adds much weight to all those other complaints about them, you being one of our regulars here.

Its my nature to be suspicious of new members who join here to Dump on them. As a Moderator I have to try to Judge their credability on their Post alone.As some one who considers himself almost an Animal Rights Extreamist, I tend to let these types of Post slide hope that they are indeed legit.

Sadly, Pets Unlimited is just one of many like petstore chains. Money is number one. It is a business first.
I had high hopes for it when it first opened and was pleased for the first few years. Sadly all that has changed.

I also worked at mountain rd pets unlimited for a coop program in highschool a few years ago and was disgusted on how they treat the pets. The thing that bothered me the most was the rats. it they got too many of them and they got too big for snake food they would take them out back put them in 2 sobeys bags and beat them off the wall. IT TAKES 13 HITS TO KILL THEM. THEY DID DOZENS AT A TIME. they wanted me to do this i refused they also did it to other sick rodents as well. i witnessed this and i was there a few months and only for 2 hours a day im sure there is worse abuse going on than this but this still stands out in my mind they were going to do this to one rat and i took it home so it wouldn't die i never buy animals from them but i do buy supplies as i have exotic pets and can only get the food i need there i think our other pet stores need to offer a wider variety of items so people wont have to go there anymore

Killing the rats in this manner would be cruelty  . If I were you, I would contact the Police and lay charges against them.

You left out that word "almost ".

To give a proper answer will take a little time and thought. And yes, I will reveal myself as ome hell of a Hypocrite when it comes to this topic.
