Re: Actor Heathe Ledger , found dead
Actor Heath Ledger Is Found Dead
By Sewell Chan
The actor Heath Ledger
was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome
Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was
28.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for
an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let
in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr.
Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the
masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They
shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the
authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said
they found pills near body.
Mr. Ledger, a native of Perth, Australia, won acclaim for his role as a co-star in “Brokeback Mountain”, a 2005 film. The film, based on a short story by Annie Proulx about two cowboys who fall in love, won critical acclaim. Reviewing
the film in The New York Times, the critic Stephen Holden wrote, “Mr.
Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his
lean, sinewy character. It is a great screen performance, as good as
the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn.”
Calls by The New York Times to Mara Buxbaum, a publicist for Mr.
Ledger, and Steve Alexander, the actor’s agent, were not immediately
returned this afternoon.

Re: Actor Heathe Ledger , found dead
This really, REALLY sucks. One of the best actors in our present time is gone.
I've been really looking forward to see his take on the Joker in "Batman: The Dark Knight", and of course I still am, because he's supposed to steal the movie. But the idea seems almost kind of morbid now.
God rest his soul.

Re: Actor Heathe Ledger , found dead
He's really not the celebrity I would have expected to die unexpectedly or tragically. Seems there are many more for whom it wouldn't be so much of a surprise.
As to his portrayal of the Joker in Batman, I heard good things as well. However, it's going to have to be one heck of an acting job to beat Jack Nicholson's Joker in the first Tim Burton Batman. When I think Joker, I think Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Kind of like when I think Hannibal Lecter, I think of Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. He was Hannibal Lecter, just as Jack Nicholson was the Joker. If Ledger's Joker is as good as I've heard, it's going to be a great movie.

Re: Actor Heath Ledger , found dead
Sid Caesar was the Joker of his generation when the campy Batman series hit TV. Jack Nicholson re-invented the character for that generation.
Now Heath Ledger is about to re-create the Joker for these times, and by all accounts he did an incredible job. The Joker evolved into a very dark villain over the years, far more so than Nicholson's portrayal, although I loved his take on it.
It pisses me off knowing that Ledger won't reprise his role in the next film.

Re: Actor Heath Ledger , found dead
Guess I should be dead by now too. I don't see any kind of medication listed in his apartment that I haven't used ... and doctors often combine anti-depressants with sleeping pills for people who are dealing with high-stress situations. I hate people using the word "drugs" to describe "prescriptions." It makes tragic accidents look like evil incidents.
My condolences to everyone who knew and loved him. He was, after all, a human being.

Heath Ledger's drugs could be dangerous cocktail
MEDICAL experts have revealed the cocktail of hypnotic-type drugs prescribed to Heath Ledger for anxiety and insomnia had the potential to make a sleeping person dangerously unresponsive.
This theory is now gaining growing credence in New York after police revealed they found no illegal drugs in the Manhattan apartment where Heath Ledger died yesterday, and that they are discounting suicide or foul play.
New York police have revealed six different types of prescription drugs were found in the 28-year-old Australian actor's Manhattan apartment following his death from a suspected drug overdose.
These included the anti-anxiety medications Xanax, Valium, and Ativan, the sleeping medication Lunesta and the sedative Restoril, used by people with "debilitating insomnia", according to a celebrity gossip website.
All the drugs found act on the brain in a similar way, by depressing the central nervous system.
"If you took a combination of these it's like taking a massive dose of one," said Prof Day, who could not comment on Ledger's specific case.
He said it would be unusual for a cocktail of these drugs alone to cause death, but in combination with a physical impairment it could be fatal.
"If you took a lot you'd be sleeping very, very soundly," Prof Day said.
"If your airways then became blocked because you inhaled a bit of vomit or were sleeping in an awkward position, you couldn't do much about it."
