So, when it comes to eating meat, animal rights , and P.E.T.A. I am definitely a Hypocrite. I love eating meat. Love it. How do I justify and reconcile that by being for animal rights? I don't even try, nor will I make any attempt to defend my actions or beliefs.
Last week I watched a special on TV called.."I Am an Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA". It was very eye opening and several times I had to turn away from the TV.
P.E.T.A. is 100% opposed to any creature being used for food, let alone to provide their hide and life to give people clothing.
They do force their views on everyone. That much I am against. In their campaigns to change our views, they have also shed light on some of the cruel methods used to raise and process animals for our foods. That I can agree with. I see no need to make any creature suffer more than needed. Just how much suffering so be permissible, I do not know, nor would I want to be the one to decide.
Maybe one day I'll have the resolve and take that leap and become a vegaterian. Then, look out.
I taught my children to respect all forms of life, and not to take a life unless it was necessary to maintain or sustain life. As a Hypocrite, I still kill mosquitoes and such.

See now my objections to PETA aren't so much that they force their views on people.. I can gloss that over. It's their hypocrisy in doing so that gets under my skin .... If I am going to post some fairly disturbing images is it okay to do it in this thread or should I PM them to you first so you can decide if they break any rules of the forum ? Flyers that were sent to a pre-kindergartner (3 or 4 wife and I can't remember) aside. Mary Beth Sweetland needs animal based insulin (the kind derrived from testing on dogs) to live. The synthetic kind doesn't work for her. Using animals for medical research and to make life saving discoveries is absolutely wrong and unconscionable EXCEPT for me. Oh I forgot to mention Mary Beth Sweetland is (or was) a vice president of PETA PETA and it's off shoots picket (and harass the owners of) animal shelters that have to put down animals they can't place. Killing animals is wrong find homes for them (not a stance I am against perse but reality being what it is....) Except that On its 2002 federal income-tax return, PETA claimed a $9,370 write-off
for a giant walk-in freezer, the kind most people use as a meat locker
or for ice-cream storage. But animal-rights activists don't eat meat or
dairy foods. And during a 2007 criminal trial, a PETA manager
(testifying under oath) confirmed the obvious -- that the group uses
the appliance to store the bodies of its victims. There are more issues but I won't press them yet I'll go looking for the scans of the flyers and if anyone wants to see them PM me until I get clearance to post them on the free forum. I don't agree with kicking puppies for fun, or that bunnies should wear mascara so we'll know if that brand will run when you cry or not. But if it would cure cancer and/or aids, heck maybe even the common cold I'ld kill chimps by the dozens. It is sufficient to say PETA is one issue I am willing to go to "forum war" over.

If they are very " disturbing", please post them in the Adult section, away from any young eyes.

Good enough since I can't for the life of me figure out how to set them as images anyway. THE SQUEEMISH STRONGLY CAUTIONED Images may be deemed inflammatory and in bad taste even though they were sent to a 4 year old I wouldn't want anyone under 14 (or easily upset) looking at them http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/zimri/peta1.jpg http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/zimri/peta2.jpg
A stack of roughly 100 of these was sent to a pre-kindergartener. The only place her parents ever registered anything in her name up until that point was when they bought her a hampster. They registered with like the habitrail kids club or something like that under her name for her. Then these showed up in the mailbox. Good thing they opened her mail for her that day

Re: Warning : disturbing images
I do disagree with this method of getting their point accross.
If my kids got these, I would really get ticked off.

Her parents called peta the response they got was "we intended those for teenaged children". This is one of the few times I will attribute to malice rather than ignorance or stupidity. If they dug in a file to get her name and address, they saw her birthday and age. I ,personally and I admit bias, know of no teenaged people that still call their mother "mommy" or for that matter don't know where fur comes from. Fur and leather keep me warm. If the animal was going to be killed for food anyway use all of it that you can. Farmers throw away cowskins because the market for cowhide leather just isn't there. Which is to say we kill more cows for food than the leather industry can absorb the hide of. Lamb and what not I have no clue I only inquired about cow and my wife never raised and thus never dealt with the killing of any leatherbearing animal other than cow.

Re: Warning : disturbing images
Yeah see now I don't think kicking puppies is funny, I don't think non medical testing on animals should be done, I don't think we should be clubbing baby seals to death for the cod industry (if we HAVE to kill them for the codfish industry to be viable we need a new fishery but for frig sakes use what you kill) Heck I don't even agree with sports hunting and fishing if you are gonna hunt and gather use what you hunt and gather either personally or sell it. But I also don't think people should be threatening Ted Nugent's family and kids because he hunts, harrassing animal shelter operators (then turning around and killing more animals than the shelters have to), paying for the legal defence of people who firebomb animal research facilities (then using insulin derived from animal testing), or sending convicted felons into classrooms to show young people how to make molotov cocktails. I would LOVE farms to be a happy shiny animal utopia until said animal is killed for my plate. But I (and societyit seems )also want affordable, fairly good food. You'll likely hear alot about the beaks of chickens being cut back (having the sharp pointy tip removed). You pretty much have to otherwise the birds will kill each other as a show of dominance, of course they will then feed on the fallen bird. people = animals is relatively true that doesn't also mean animals = people (to me and many anyway). Yeah me calling for a more middle ground shocking isn't it.

Re: PROTEST PETS UNLIMITED!!! JOIN IN AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
They actually work with the SPCA so if you dont like the way the dogs are handled maybe you should think twice about the SPCA too. And as for the breeders all the information comes from head office and is not allowed to be shared with the public. I do agree the dogs are over priced though. I am not sure what makes people an expert on how dogs should be treated, what size there kennels should be, how often the kennels get changed etc. but if you think you know it all then be my guest. There are regulations and each store has to follow them, I am sure if Pets Unlimited was not following these regulations they would have been shut down before they opened. An as for papers with you dog, they are full breed and pure breed, theres a difference.

Scince the SPCA is the only " shelter " in the area , we have no choice but to deal with them in most cases. If there is a problem with the SPCA, then public pressure , aka " Raise a little Hell", must be brought against them.
As to regultions being applied: they may be in the begining, but as time passes, they can fall by the wayside. The papers ( which I read online everyday) have several stories every couple of weeks about " operations" having charges brought against them.
Raising Hell can do wonders.
