A beautiful lawn is not worth the damage caused.  Isn't it Ontario which is enacting such a law next year?  I thought it interesting that it wouldn't apply to golf courses.  It seems that rich golfers (poor golfers too, but there are less of them) shouldn't have to worry about polluting, just so they don't have to whack a golf ball off a dandelion.

I don't think pesticides should be banned but people should learn to read the instructions on the package and use them more carefully. Our yard is au naturel, no pesticides, and lots of dog and cat poop. In the summer we have lots of birds singing, and some of them eating mosquitoes and other bugs. Some of the grass is thick, some thin, some light green, some dark green. Flowers pop up all over the place and we always get an abundant crop of Tim Horton cups. It is a great yard and doesn't cost a lot to maintain. Best of all it's alcohol and chemical free except for the odd beer that gets knocked over.
Remember yesterday, respect tomorrow, live for today.

The problem with North America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Oh yes, I think they should be banned and have been saying so for years.

It always seemed strange to me that for a farmer to buy pesticides he had to take a course and get certified, but any local yolkel can go and buy the same pesticides, smaller quantites no problem.  You can even send a child into the hardware store to buy pesticides.

When a farmer sprays these pesticides, he/she puts on protective clothing and a face mask.

When townies spray these same pesticides, they just spray....no preparation, no nuttin.

blah....blah.....blah....ramble.....ramble......now talking about townies.....we just HAFFTA spray those ugly dandilions eh......and they're only around for a couple of weeks and then we go and buy other yellow flowers.....makes no sense to this old noggin.

Let's just think about this for a moment. We can no longer apply pesticides to our lawns so stray children and animals won't be in harms way but farmers can still apply the pesticides to their crops which we consume.Something is just not right here. And before anyone says we should wash all our fruits and vegetables just how many people really do.

FYI- Many of you who aren't aware of this but only days before harvest many fruits we consume like; strawberries blueberries, apples and every fruit you can think of is sprayed with the same chemical they use to spray lawns. Do I agree? heck no. But think about it before you go judging.

Big yellow taxi by Joni Mitchell is all well and good as a song

Hey farmer, farmer, put away your ddt now
Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and the bees, please

But it comes down to a cost/benefit ratio. Crops that do not use pesticides, and fertilizers yield less usable harvest. Less usable harvest means you pay more for that which is usable. I don't see a line up of people volunteering to not eat do you ? I know we can just print more money like Germany did cause that worked well.

Regarding the actual topic I voted yes there should be a ban on pesticides and herbicides used for aesthetic purposes.
