Sho Caliberi: The New Face of Organized Crime

American Hip-Hop recording artist Sho Caliberi has been getting alot of attention lately, but not because of his music. According to the publication "Gangsters and Wizeguys", Caliberi has been doing "jobs" for the La Cosa Nostra since the age of 8. Although he denies these accusations (somewhat; he has never actually denied total involvement), alot of photos and videos have surfaced showing Sho Caliberi in the company of known mobsters such as Gerlando Caruana, Vanero Mangano,  Paul Dimarco, ect. An un-named "rat" who said he was close with Caliberi, has said that many families of Cosa Nostra used Caliberi for jobs in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, and Colombia because he was to young to face serious prison time if caught. Seeing as how Sho Caliberi is now only approx. 20 years old, and most of his "work" reportedly took place between the ages of 14 and 17, it begs the question: Is this the new face of organized crime? Are the present day Mafia bosses using younger soldiers to avoid having their people serve long prison sentences and possibly turn into informants?

Re: Sho Caliberi: The New Face of Organized Crime

The fact that he is a "hip hop"recording artist and a member (allegedly) of organized crime matters more than if he were a country singer, farmer, doctor, lawyer, or ditch digger and a member of organized crime (allegedly)

No its not the new face of the mafia. In the book, "The Red Patch: Entering Life of the MAFIA", there are a few pages about Sho Caliberi. Both Dimarco and Mangano, who are thought to be the highest ranking men in the Genovese Family, are quoted in the book as saying, (Mangano) "That kid (Sho Caliberi) is the most unusually outstanding and loyal young man I've ever know", and (Dimarco) "You can't ignore his abilities, but his loyalty and trustworthyness are probably his greatest assets". Most kids who are as young as Sho Caliberi was when he was working for the mob would fold under the slightest pressure,  from the authorities or others. I don't think the mafia is going to make an effort to employ alot of hormone crazed teenagers as hitmen. Sho Caliberi was an extremely rare case, and is an extremely rare man, or rather, boy.

Loyalty and trustworthyness are fantastic traits.

Still confused as to why his "normal" career (hip hop artist) matters one iota.

It doesn't matter, I think that's just how some people know him. Nobody knew who this piece of trash was before his attempt at a "music career" and once he got in the public eye a little, all this stuff started coming out about him. Him being a hip-hop artist doesn't mean anything. He's still trash, he's still a murderer, a criminal. My opinion anyway.

Oh yeah there is no denying that "organized crime" is still crime and usally the worst kinds of crime. But they are at least "orderly and organized" and have their own code of honor. I much prefer order to chaos. Dont get me wrong I prefer good over evil too but orderly and evil vs chaotic and good  meh it's harder to discern for me.

Every second rap video shows these turkies acting like a bunch of " gangstas".

For some its just an image, for others its the way they want to live.

I have yet to see a Rap Video where they show women as more than just sluts, ho's, or sex toys.

    Big Smile [:D]

Re: Sho Caliberi: The New Face of Organized Crime

Even though I agree with Zymry on the point of orderly and evil vs. chaotic and good, Paladin just made my point for me. Everytime a discussion about this creep takes place, hoards of people stand up to defend him, especially in the hip-hop community. Why? Because other "artists" only talk about doing the things that he has actually done. Being a "gangsta", whether it's real or only for the cameras, has become a nessasary commodity in the hip-hop culture. Because Caliberi has actually done these things that, again, others just rap about, he is celebrated. I think that it's a horrible thing to imagine this guy being put on magazines or other forms of media simply because he really IS a gangster.

Awwww crap we're staying on topic.... I'ld rather have the real deal than some phony who you couldn't be sure of. We know how the real "organized crime" person will react in given situations. If they come they will come cold and methodically and can ,to some degree, be reasoned with.

Of course I don't believe "gangster" as I use the term can apply to someone in what I would call "organized crime". Gangsters are street level, and too emotional and irrational to be "organized" like Al Capone and the boys.
