Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
Although the problem with overweight people is like you said "consuming more calories than your burning" it goes mush deeper than that.
In my opinion it's like telling someone who is depressed to get over it just like that without offering or giving direction and/or help.
Their are many different reasons people gain weight just like different bodies carry the weight differently, have more energy and some even burn faster.
Different stresses in life can even affect body weight.. that's what I'm talking about; it's not all that "cut and dry" like some people seem to think.
You can't just "shut your mouth" and not eat...
BTW...I'm not fat in case you would think i'm trying to deffend myself.. just no blind to the fact that everyone is different and the body doesn't make your soul.

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
Although there are many different reasons as to why people overeat, there are ALOT of people who simply don't have the ambition, drive or education to combat it. It's something that the government, the schools and parents really have to nip in the bud. You can only do what you know right? If you only grew up eating kfc, wendy's, mcdonalds then that's all you're going to eat! IT takes a very determined and severe effort to change your entire lifestyle like that. You need people to support you, people need help (please note that I don't mean "you" when I say you. Using it as a global term)and they need guidance I agree. Still though, it's up to them to want to change and anyone can do it. You can get over the emotional issues, the stress, the loneliness and all the other reasons to why people it. It's a matter of stepping outside your comfort zone and pushing yourself to the max. It can be done!

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
F u c k, I hate fat people For a very long time I've been holding back on this one, because somewhere there's a point where my mean-spirited nature takes a turn into downright cruelty. But when my dear friend and kindred spirit Stacey brought to my attention the mini epidemic of people being sooooo morbidly obese that they become GRAFTED TO THEIR COUCHES... Well, I have to speak up.
And I'll say it, right now: I hate fat people. F u c k 'em. And I'm not talking about you, 20-40lbs overweight (although, now that we're on the subject, you probably should hit the treadmill). I'm talking about these like, three and four hundred pound motherf.u.c.kers. The kind of morbidly obese bohemoths that only the great US of A, home of Wal-Mart, McDonald's, Wendy's, KFC, Arby's, Tim's, Pizza Delight-Hut-Grecos (any fast greasy spoon you can think of) that scan produce in mass quantity and we inhale them at the same mass rate. The kind whose greasy lard rolls slurch over into my seat on an airplane. The kind who blame everyone but their fat f.u.c.king selves for all their weight problems. And I wouldn't bring this up except that, as I said, people are now SO FAT, and SO LAZY, that they become one with their couches. This woman was on her couch for SIX YEARS, not even getting up to bowel movement. Yeah. That's right.
And then there's this guy, who weighed over 1000 lbs. when he was finally forklifted off of his couch to a nearby hospital:

Look at that dude's f u c king portrait. That is a f u c king masterpiece.
So who shall we blame? Most people regurgatate at the thought of walking anywhere, let alone exercising. So all of you who think that this is just bullying or making fun of lards a s s es you are so f u c king wrong. It's a very serious problem in our culture today. But most of you want to be spoonfed that it's ok to be fat. Much like anorexia is not where I am heading with this but f uck, where is the happy medium. If you are fat and you hate it, do something about it and don't tell other people not to be disgusted by it. Wake up!

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
Here I am baby...signed sealed delivered I am yours...I heard somebody was looking for me. I'm not far just call my name: PUNK and I'll be there. I am busy trying not to get fat, so I can't always be here when the babes of the forum call out my name. You have to scream my name out loud so I can hear you, otherwise, I am in my lab creating new post that will spur meaningful dialogue on Topix. (I love it when you guys fight on the account of me)
Now back to the issue at hand.
Anyway, I don't understand how anyone can disagree with my position on obesity. Do I have to spoon feed the conclusion to you people? It's obvious that if you say nothing the problem will only get BIGGER. Then they have no incentive to lose weight.
And another thing, obviously if they have enough money to buy that much food, they ought to be able to help with the national debt. And fat people aren't totally harmless, they increase insurance rates for people because they have many more issues than you or I, but a FAT TAX would encourage fat people to lose some weight and help everybody, especially themselves.
Besides isn't GLUTTONY one of the seven deadly sins?
Anyway, I'm off to eat Ice Cream. And pies. And drink Ice Wine.
...But just as a parting note we should think strongly about that FAT TAX thing...!

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
I don’t disagree with you entirely anymore. The obesity rate has sky rocketed, especially in kids. Soon these kids are teens and then adults and most kids of obese parents are obese adults. A “fat cycle” as you might call it. I am about 10lbs-15lbs overweight, and yes I guess I am overweight, but I don’t see the big deal in that. I do see a big deal in people who weight up to 400 lbs. There is no reason for that much weight, and I don’t care how stressed you are. I mean, that’s a lot of food.
In a school in the states, in a gym class, they wanted to make a rule that for every 5 lbs you are overweight, they would take 1% off your grade. Thats a way to make them loose it.

Look out Punkman, I think she is only looking to cut off your mohawk when your guard is down.
Remember yesterday, respect tomorrow, live for today. The problem with North America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I enjoy that you said what they're being taught, because I agree. I think most of the blame can land on the parents.

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
I wouldnt harm a hair on punkmans head..i wear a mohawk sometimes...love the mohawks
But yes, many kids who are on sport teams are over weight. I go to the mall, and i have a little tummy, nothing too bad..but i see some girls wearing skin tight clothes..and letting it all hangout..it is their buisness..i would never insult them..but in the back of my mind i wonder where they get their confidence? i fret over like a little tummy and they are like..Blah..its mean but to be honest..i have looked at some people and thought DAMN..im not saying your right about the whole barfing cuz they are gross thing...but there is a diffrence between slightly overweight and morbidly obese..sure genteic obesity is real, but come on..how many people use that? 9/10

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
so true, many people rely on fast food to accomodate thier busy lives. they do boast healthy eating, but they still do have alot of hidden calories. it's up to the parents to teach their kids healthy eating choices and to be more active. turn the tv off, play station, computer and go out side and play!!

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
If you live in an American/Canadian society, you probably believe that being fat is a serious personal, social, and medical liability. And in some cases it is. My friend once told me that she would rather die or cut off a limb than be fat. She was serious too!
That was really when I came to realize fat people are deeply ashamed of their bodies and probably spend their lives trying to become what they are not and hide what cannot be hidden, so they let it hang out. What I do not agree with is our society teaches us that thinness signals self-discipline and self-respect, beauty, desirable, high achiever hence anorexia became popular. Whereas fatness signals self-contempt and lack of resolve.
Nevertheless, a growing number of people believe it’s possible to be happy with their body even if it happens to be fat. And besides if everyone was thin we would find something else to debate.
One of the main reason fat people reluctant to seek medical attention is because of prejudices and because health professionals are among the most prejudiced people around. I have friends who are Doctors and they say: It's difficult to treat someone like that and the smell is repugnant.
I heard a woman say that after she was raped she ate because she didn't want attention from males and it worked. But she said when women became mean, she had to re-think her decision.
I am what most would deem the athletic type. So for myself, over the last 8 years or so I’ve made many attempts to become even more active (to stay thin) on a regular basis with varying degrees of success. I often would go swimming three or four times a week for two, three, or four months followed by a hiatus of several weeks or months. I would work out in the gym 5-6 days per week for a year straight. About two years ago, I realized that I always felt better when I was being active. So why the long hiatuses? Because I was exercising in hopes of losing more weight. After months of dogged discipline with what I considered to be excellent results, I would naturally stop. Within a few weeks I would stop feeling the surge of energy and well-being that comes with regular exercise. So I started to think about how about moving just for the fun of it? So I gave up the notion of maintaining weight and consequently gave up feeling pressured, and as a result the hiatuses have become fewer and shorter in duration. I began to vary my workouts more, so that I got less bored and enjoyed myself more. I think most fat people don't understand that moving, even in a large body, can be fun.
What we (fat and thin) have to realize is food is not the enemy; it's a gift and a source of energy, nutrition and joy. Stop being afraid of food.
I’ve been training with that goal in mind for months now. Instead of avoiding stairs, I look for them. I’m no longer ashamed of huffing and puffing–I’m proud. I’m pushing myself just enough so that I’m becoming stronger and have more endurance all the time. This summer I discovered that really do like biking , what a thrill!
What fat people have to do is forge a new relationship with their bodies, one that doesn’t involve self-loathing, one that appreciates the miraculousness of their bodies, one that brings joy. The rest will come.

Re: Blinded By The Fat...Cover up!!!
it's true that food is a sourse of energy, but people need to learn portion sizes and listen to what their bodies are really telling them. most times when people think they are hungry, they really are just thirsty, dehydrated. so they really need water, but they mistaken it for hunger, and they eat instead.
