What you have to remember is " The workers vote to accept a collective agreement or not "  If they take less than what they feel they deserve, then it's their choice.

    Excellent youtube video!  Thanks unionman!

BTW, all the non-unionized outfits benefit from all of those wins at the bargaining table too.  That's not stated enough around the shops is it?  nope

Two years ago, the workers in BC was in pretty poor shape "trying" to bargain.  Their rights for collective bargaining were threatened to be taken away by the government and it was very close to happening.  If it wasn't for the solidatity from around our country plus a big show from us East Coasters, they might have lost ground which could have sent them back into the dark ages as well as the rest of us and those in non-unionized jobs too.

I don't usually hear such sentiments expressed in Canada.

You're right.  A lot of people believe that the goverments and the big companies just "gave" us a lot of that stuff: overtime, minimum wage, Health Care, vacation pay etc...

All workers benefit from the gains made by Unions.

Case in point:  In PEI, the Cavendish plant is Unionized but the McCain plant isn't.  Any time Cavendish gets a raise, McCain raises the wages too.  Wonder why? lol

no  the real reason  the members votefor less isthat if it goes to arbritation they will loose even more  it asll gain gain both for the unionsstealing oudues and thecompanies feeding the unions so  the members would go on strike during slack period   and accept less  than  demanded  because they are afraid to loose everything

If it goes to arbitration?  Someone doesn't know too much about Unions.  A dispute either goes to concilliation or mediation.  Binding arbitration for collective agreements rarely go to binding arbitration.  That's usually goverment employees that end up there.

    Re: Anyone looking to unionize

Yes they have Unions - either CUPE for federal or NBUPE - what happens is they can't find a common ground to agree on and decide to let a "impartial' (I'll use that term losely) decide what the outcome is

    Re: Anyone looking to unionize

Members on the losing end 99% of the time?  Not sure where that figure comes from but let me say that arbitrators are appointed by the goverment.  Need I say more?
