    hahahaha!

Starry, I'm always concerned about people NOT drinking enough water.   It's so hard to get old people to drink the darn stuff and it's free.  They think one or two glasses a day is all they need and then they go to the Dr. for pills to make them sh$t.  Water is all they need......yup:)

Gotta share this........yesterday hubby assed me if I liked molasses.  I saw pork chops on the counter thawing and said, "of course I like molasses, but NOT on pork chops ha ha ha."

His face dropped.  "I was planning on marinating them in molasses."

Me, "well let's givver a try then.  I'm always game for something different. Maybe it will be good."

Wellsirrrr.......thinking all afternoon about pork chops being marinmated in molasses gave me the heeby geebies, but man oh man they were yummy. I couldn't believe it.  Pork chops marinated in molasses.....my arse.....LOL.....but good!  Ya learn something new everyday eh!

    Re: Wadds force upper?

You wouldn't believe how well molasses goes with ALOT of stuff. I on the other hand, I just cannot see it as being too good because I see it as a dessert kinda thing (I love to eat toast with butter and dipped in molasses mmmm good)
Be careful what you write cause you can say boo and they will jump down your throat.

Well, Cautious, I'll have you know that I am Queen of molasses cookies in my family, hahaha!  I use molasses a lot things too,  beans, making brown bread, cookies, and some other types of sweets, but I've never heard of using it as a marinade.

We talked a lot about this, hubby 'n me since yesterday and both of us  conjured up memories of old dead-now relatives pouring molasses on their plates after a pork meal.  They would dip up the pork fat and molasses with home made bread.  It was a wonder they didn't get dead from all that fat eh.

people in previous generations were largely more active so things like that didn't stay and sit in the system they got purged by heavier blood flow and muscle activity. Sure we "know" about more of these bad things now (saturated fat, cholesterol, etcetera) but they have a larger effect because we are also alot more sedentary (as a whole, not saying anyone imparticular)

As an aside yeah marinating in molasses I'll have to try that was it just molasses or were ther things added ?

yup yup, I agree zymry..... back when I was running around on a farm I was a lot healthier  come to think of it.   I remember thinking how foolish it was to pay to belong to a gym.......a little work would benefit a body more........and now, here I am, hardly any work to do and looking for exercise.  I walk on sidewalks now.  Back then, I ran....from barn to barn.

Yes, there were more ingredients to the molasses marinade.

a little molasses, pepper, crushed garlic, tablespoon wine, soy sauce

I guess you will just have to experiment with quantities.

Excellent April. Thank you very much. I LOVE "kitchen chemistry" just needed to know if the starting point had anything else in it now that I know it did I'll "muck about" as it were when I decide to use it.

I think I have often been heard to say in the kitchen "nope that isn't right the color is off what do we have thats red  we can add..... hmm ketchup, tomota sauce, tomato paste, franks hot sauce

The 2 most important cooking tips I ever got and use most often

    1) from the frugal gourmet. There are only 4 ways to cook things boil it, bake it, fry it, f*ck it up
    2) from old minute rice tv commercials alice (from the brady bunch) would boil rice in something other than plain water. I saw these when I was like 7 or 8 and they stuck with me. I don't think I have ever made rice with just water, usually cream of something soup , or tomato soup or whatever the meat was marinaded in with soup.
