    Bigot alert!

I am a self confessed bigot.
I stand on my ancestral rights not to learn French (my ancestors having come to this country to kill French people in 1759). I am in self imposed exile from the place of my birth (Montreal). I will not get French rammed down my throat period.
I have not conveniently forgotten what the "treaty of Paris" is, and fully understand what pledging my allegiance to the king/queen means, unlike the general Acadian population.
I feel it is my duty to preserve my heritage, but unlike some, I do not expect by and large to pay for it.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

    Re: Bigot alert!

This is not about bigotry. It is about proper names. I don't call Peter Pierre and I don't call Pierre Peter. A name is a name. If you translate a name to another name things get all frigged up. As an example the Acadians got somehow called the Cajuns in Louisana. New Brunswick is still New Brunswick, not Nouveau Brunswick.

Not very people know where Dog Point is but almost everybody can find their way to Point du Chene.

    Isn't dog=chien?or something like that?

Just asking. Not trying to criticize. I agree with your idea.

I think you're right. I try to learn French but I have a long way to go.

I guess Pointe du Chene translates as Oak Point. I never knew that.

    Re: Bigot alert!

Willie, you may rest your case all you want on the issue of New Brunswick's name, but the simple fact is that both are correct.  Nouveau-Brunswick is as proper as New Brunswick.  It's in the frigging constitution.

    Re: Bigot alert!

The constitution must have been written by illiterate or uneducated people who didn't know any better. A proper name does not get translated to another language. Due to it's popularity a group of people might call the name of a place in their native language but they are wrong in doing so.

    You're probably right.
