    Tips for Handling Telemarketers

Three Little Words That Work !
(1)The three little words are: "Hold On please..."

Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.

Then when you eventually hear the phone company's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task.

These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting.

    (2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?

This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone.

This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home.

What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!!

Another tip....If they call repeatedly ask for a supervisor then asked to be placed on a DO NOT CALL list......This does exist

Put them on hold. Some aren't allowed to be the first to hang up.

I just had an auto caller asking me to press 9 for a special lower interest on my credit card. I was not given any other options so I did my best to play a happy tune on the numbers. Then in my best kid's voice I yelled "Mom, the phone's broken again". It hung up on me. Oh well, my loss.

    Re: Tips for Handling Telemarketers

Mrs W, the kind hearted soul, must give to almost every charity that calls here. This week she's working night shift so I get to answer the calls a good part of the day. I honestly have to say the calls are getting on my nerves. If I answer, and somebody is looking for money, I'm telling them flat out that her lawn needs to be mowed. If they want money they can drop by when they get off work and cut it. I'm sure she will pay them to do it. So far I haven't had any takers.Big Smile [:D]

I got back here less than 2 1/2 hours ago and there have been 7 telemarketers who called. I hope they can all get good parking when they all show up after work to cut the grass.silly [silly]

    laughing [laughing] Good for you!

I was just thinking yesterday that the next telemarketer who phones here may get an opportunity to answer all MY questions before I answer HIS/HERS. Or perhaps I could stress to them how important it is that they realize Jesus loves them. Sometimes I offer to let them speak to my agent and pass the phone to one of the kiddies. Stick out tongue [:P]

Caution: does not play well with stupid people.
