Armed man walks into the Codiac Regional RCMP Detachment, Moncton, N.B.
On February 28, 2008, at approximately 1:00 pm a man armed with a knife walked into the front lobby of the Codiac Regional RCMP Detachment. While speaking to a front desk employee, he pulled out a knife and lunged towards the employee. The employee managed to get out of the way and called for assistance. Half a dozen police officers came to the employee’s assistance. The man was waving his knife in the front lobby and yelling to police officers to shoot him.
During the incident, two people walked into the front lobby, unaware of the immediate danger of grievous bodily harm. The armed man resisted orders to drop his knife. The conducted energy weapon was deployed to immobilize the suspect so he could be quickly apprehended.
“This is a good example where appropriate utilization of the conducted energy weapon resulted in bringing a dangerous situation under control.” said Constable Chantal Farrah. Paramedics provided immediate medical attention to the man as a precautionary measure and transported him to the hospital. No one was injured during this incident.

On April 23, 2008 the Codiac Regional RCMP Drug Section arrested a 29 year old Moncton man and a 26 year old Moncton woman for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking during a residential search warrant on Joyce Avenue in Moncton. Officers assisted by a Codiac police dog seized, cocaine, contraband tobacco cigarettes and drug paraphanlia and cash.
They will be appearing in Moncton Provincial Court on July 9, 2008 at 9:30am to face charges for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and charges under the Excise Act and the Tobacco Tax Act of New Brunswick.

A pedestrian walking over a bridge in the area noticed something in the water and called 911 early Tuesday afternoon, said Cpl. Mike Gaudet.
The RCMP and the Moncton fire department responded and removed what appears to be a male body from the water, Gaudet said.
In April, Michael Hughes, 22, was struck by a train while trying to coax his dog off the tracks on a bridge near Elmwood Drive and Donald Avenue.
"We can't confirm the identification of the body at this time. However, there hasn't been any other incidents in this area, and no other missing persons from the area, at this point," Gaudet said.
Police expect to have an identification on the body within two days, he said.

The Codiac Regional RCMP is asking for your assistance to identify the person responsible for a break and enter in a residence on Cascade Avenue in Moncton which occurred on April 19, 2008 shortly after 2am.
A young woman was asleep in her bed and was awoken when she heard noise in her bedroom. When she opened her eyes there was a young man wearing a dark colored hooded sweater and blue jeans standing next to her bed. The suspect was startled and fled the apartment. The woman was unharmed. The investigation is ongoing.
The suspect is described as being a man possibly in his late teens to mid twenties, Caucasian, medium height and slim build. He was wearing a dark colored hooded sweater and blue jeans.

Dany Philippe Cyr of Moncton receives eight month sentence for child pornography,
Moncton, N.B.
On June 4, 2008, Dany Philippe Cyr of Moncton, N.B. was sentenced to 8 months of imprisonment for possession of child pornography.
The sentence was the result of an investigation which began in Germany and resulted in seven people being arrested in New Brunswick on October 3, 2007.
Mr. Cyr also received three years probation with numerous conditions including not to have contact with children under 16 and not to have possession of computers. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 10 years.

On June 4, 2008, Judge Yvette Finn of the Caraquet Provincial Court sentenced Raymond Chiasson, a 60-year-old man from Pokesudie, N.B., to two concurrent sentences of three years in prison for sexual contact and an invitation to sexual touching. The incidents involving an underage girl took place during the summer of 2006.
Mr. Chiasson was issued a DNA order for genetic analysis and a ten-year firearm prohibition order, and he is not allowed to be in a public park or a public swimming area if there are people under the age of 14. Mr. Chiasson cannot look for or accept a job or a volunteer position that would put him in a relationship of confidence with people younger than 14 years old.

Eight (8) New Brunswick men will be appearing in Moncton Provincial Court on July 16, 2008 at 9:30 am to face charges of solicitation for the purpose of prostitution.
In the past few weeks, the Codiac Regional RCMP Street Crime Unit arrested eight “Johns” as the result of prostitution enforcement efforts.
The men, ages of 30 to 63, were arrested in the St.George Street area of Moncton. The men are from Edmundston, Lower Coverdale, MacDougall Settlement, Murray Settlement Notre-Dame, Saint-Antoine, Saint-Marie-de-Kent and Stillesville.
These arrests are part of an on-going effort by Codiac Regional RCMP to increase efforts to curb sex trade activities. The Codiac Regional RCMP’s primary objective is to ensure safe homes and safe communities for all citizens. With your information, we can solve crime.

A Woodstock man has been charged following a home invasion in Upper Kingsclear, N.B..
During the early morning hours of June 6, 2008 a man broke into a home and assaulted a 90-year old woman. A man was arrested at the property by police.
19-year old Ryan Cote appeared at the Fredericton Provincial Court charged with break and enter and assault causing bodily harm. He was released by a Judge on conditions. He will be reappearing in Fredericton to enter a plea later in the month.
District 2 RCMP believe this was a random crime and the victim was not specifically targeted.
The incident remains under investigation.

The witnesses reported to the store security that a man had his genitals exposed. Codiac RCMP would like to speak to these women who had left before police arrived.
Furthermore, Codia RCMP asks anyone who has witnessed similar incidents in the Greater Moncton area to contact them.
