    Basement work/Granny apartment.

Let's say a typical three bedrrom house, approx $130,000 value, with unfinished basement.

What kind of price range are we talking to 'finish' the basement, sealing floor/walls and installing electrical points for lighting etc. It needn't be totally self contained...could just have living area and bedroom.

It would involve raising the house 3 or 4 feet...so new windows too.

    Anyone recommend appropriate contractors?

Where do you reside? I think that would help. But from the sounds of things right now you need to have a bit of a budget.

here is a quick estimate for you .over 25 years ago my father raised his house and put in a full basement at that time it cost him around 30 thousand dollars so add a fair amount to that for prices of today

it might be cheaper to put an addon   if you have the lot for it

Also wondering about add on/extension as there's plenty of room. Financing would be in laws...possibly moving to Moncton to join us. Extension or basement finishing could be better option than themm getting their own place.
