Stanton Friedman, NB's UFO expert on Larry King Live July 13
Stanton Friedman, NB's UFO expert to appear on Larry King Live
The Telegraph-Journal Saint John, NB
By SHAWN BERRY http://www.canadaeast.com/ce2/docroot/article.php?articleID=28202 page A1
A local ufologist says the world's best-known UFO incidents continue to capture people's imaginations because of government cover-up and military involvement.
Stanton Friedman, who lives in Fredericton, will appear on Larry King Live on Friday night, July 13th, to mark the 60th anniversary of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and discuss its legacy.
Friedman said he will appear along with former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and a retired military surgeon who grew up in Roswell.
The retired surgeon was 11 years old when the U.S. military recovered a device that crashed on a ranch near the community July 8, 1947.
While military personnel put out a news release describing the recovery of "a flying disk," they later described the crashed item as a weather balloon.
Then it was called a top-secret device used to monitor Soviet-era nuclear testing.
But stories have always endured among locals in the New Mexico town and among former members of a since-closed nearby military base -- which was home to the unit that performed the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki -- that what was recovered was not of this world.
True believers of alien life say Roswell is the definitive UFO event.
It was the work of Friedman -- a nuclear physicist by training -- that helped take the incident at Roswell from an all but forgotten event to become the best-known UFO case.
"I'm hoping (people) will recognize Roswell really happened, that there are credible people who were involved," the 73-year-old Friedman said Wednesday.
"Roswell was real and we're not the big shots that we think we are in this corner of the galaxy. There is overwhelming evidence that Earth is being visited."
And six decades later, debate over what crashed on that New Mexico ranch continues to spark people's imagination.
"I think it's because it embodies everything: government cover-up, the only atomic bombing group in the world, it's got everything," Friedman said.

Re: Stanton Friedman, NB's UFO expert on Larry King Live July 13
Could be fascinating. Friedman's an interesting fellow.
But I completely lost interest in the whole UFO thing after I saw a movie called "Fire In the Sky", and watched an interview with two of the supposed 'victims' with a UFO debunker on CNN. As it turns out, they allowed Hollywood to pump up the story with effects and nonsense in order for the film to make more money.
Takes all kinds these days.

'Aliens' land in Shag Harbour

== If you were an a Alien, new to the area, and were looking for some " Excitement ", where would you go?
Why Shag Harbour,,of course..
'Aliens' land in Shag Harbour
New UFO museum opens, celebrating 1967’s mystery crash
By BRIAN MEDEL Yarmouth Bureau The Chronicle Hearld, http://thechronicleherald.ca/NovaScotia/846957.html
THE SHAG Harbour Incident Society is welcoming visiting aliens to its new UFO museum this summer.
What incident are they talking about? The famous UFO crash of 1967.

The sign in front of the Shag Harbour UFO museum. (Brian Medel / Yarmouth Bureau)
The museum opened in June and, as of this week, had seen 287 visitors. As many as 30 have come from Europe
And oddly enough, most visitors to the tiny museum were already familiar with the Shag Harbour UFO story.
On Oct. 4, 1967, several witnesses described seeing something crash into the sea.
There were no reports of aircraft falling from the sky that night, even though a patch of yellow foam about seven centimetres thick was seen on the water not long afterwards.
The incident has been listed as a UFO crash.
The tiny brick post office in Shag Harbour has had its own special postmark since 2001, depicting a sailing vessel being followed by a flying saucer.
Canada Post has said it’s their only stamp cancellation mark featuring an alien spacecraft.
People continue to come from far and wide to have their mail sent out from the one-wicket post office, cancelled with the unique postmark, said postmaster Cindy Nickerson.
She’s also chairwoman of the new Shag Harbour Incident Society.
Visitors like to watch a video presentation and look at old news clippings in the museum.
And a rare 1970 comic book all about UFOs and flying saucers is displayed.
The bizarre Shag Harbour event is the top story, entitled UFOs Invade Our Shores. In the gift shop, little alien-in-a-bottle key chains are quite popular.
"We’ve had a lot of good comments," she said Thursday about the new museum’s first few weeks.
And yes, most folks already know a little something about the strange event from Canada’s centennial year.
"The ones from England and Germany that we’ve had, they’ve known about it," said Ms. Nickerson. "You don’t even have to tell them."
"It’s strange," she said. "It seems like the people that are closer to home don’t know as much about it as the people farther away."
The museum is in a temporary location now and is missed by some people who drive by once or twice.
"Even though we’ve got the alien standing out there, . . . people drive by," said Ms. Nickerson.
"Probably by next week, we’ll have two signs up that say, UFO Museum Just Ahead."
The museum’s permanent home will be on property on the outskirts of the village.
"You can see where the UFO sighting was (from there) and everything," said Ms. Nickerson.
The society will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the incident this October, with a two-day festival.

Stanton Friedman, co-authors book detailing UFO abduction

Fredericton ufologist Stanton Friedman, co-authors book detailing UFO abduction
By SHAWN BERRY http://dailygleaner.canadaeast.com/cityregion/article/39145 page A5
A local expert on unidentified flying objects hopes his new book that re-examines the first publicized report of people claiming to have been abducted by UFOs will stir some discussion.
Stanton Friedman, a nuclear physicist who is considered one of the world's foremost authorities among UFO experts, recently co-authored a new book about Betty and Barney Hill.
The book, Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience, was published earlier this month.
The book is co-authored by Kathy Marden, a retired sociologist and educator. She's Betty Hill's niece and became executrix of the Hill estate after Betty died in 2004.
"If I were to pick one story to make people believe, it wouldn't be Roswell with the tale of government cover-up, it would be this story," said Friedman, who is best-known among ufologists as the man whose research made the 1947 Roswell, N.M., incident a part of the popular lexicon of UFO tales.
But Friedman said it's the tale of the Hills' 1961 early-morning sighting on a road in the White Mountains of New Hampshire that should arouse people's curiosity, along with the story they later recounted.
Portsmouth, N.H., residents Betty and Barney Hill were heading home from a trip to upstate New York and Quebec on the night they said they encountered a strange craft with occupants not of this world.
"They remembered seeing a UFO, and that it was following them," Friedman recounted in the living room of his Fredericton home earlier this week.
Their story soon became the first widely known account of an alien abduction.
"Somehow, they got home two hours later than they should have -- and their watches had stopped," said Friedman, who met the couple three months before Barney died 1969.
Friedman was also a consultant on a 1975 made-for-television movie, The UFO Incident, that starred James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons as the couple who was haunted by anxiety and nightmares after the incident and who turned to a psychiatrist to help them piece together what happened.
In the book, Friedman reviews and refutes the arguments of those who have attacked claims that the Hills were abducted by aliens.
"We need to realize we're not the bigshots in the neighbourhood, and this is going to blow the lid on the whole cosmic Watergate," Friedman said.
Lending to their credibility, Friedman said, is that Betty, a social worker for the state, and Barney, a U.S. Postal Service Worker, didn't want their story known.
"They actually tried to get legal advice to stop the publication of the story," said Friedman who has offered lectures for 40 years on the subject of Flying Saucers Are Real.
But in the end, a Boston newspaper obtained copies of tapes of a speech the Hills had given, details of their hypnosis sessions with a Boston psychiatrist and notes from interviews the couple had given to UFO investigators.
A story was published in 1965, and in 1966 a book entitled The Interrupted Journey was published about the case.
"I think we're learning something about the nature of the universe," said Friedman, who says he's never seen a flying saucer himself, but who says a number of recent reported UFO sightings by credible eyewitnesses in the U.S. and in Europe, such as pilots and air traffic controllers, should give skeptics pause for thought.
Friedman has been featured in newspaper articles around the world, as well as hundreds of radio and television interviews, including an appearance earlier this month on CNN's Larry King Live.
