    Vipassana Meditation Retreat, Sutton, Quebec

I've recently registered for a Vipassana (insight meditation) 10 day retreat in Sutton Quebec.  The course takes place from April 1st (beginning at 3pm) to April 12th (ends 6:30am).  If you have no idea what Vipassana is, you can get details here:

    www.dhamma.org

I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there in the Moncton are who is registered or interested in registering and would like to ride share?  There's lots of time to plan it.  Otherwise, the train fare is about $225 return.  The course is offered on a donation basis only.  I've never done a course, but have always had an interest and am looking for a personal challenge.  I meditate currently, however with only online resources "getting it" is pretty difficult.

    G'day.

If Vipassana Meditation is meant make you restful and at rest, why does the Vipassana Meditation site say: "The day begins at 4:00 a.m. with a wakeup bell and continues until 9:00 p.m. There are about ten hours of meditation throughout the day, interspersed with regular breaks and rest periods.

Well, as I understand it, meditators require much less sleep than would a non-meditator.  Meditation is used to quiet the mind, not allowing to run on it's own free will & drag you on with it.  When all your thoughts, emotions, feelings drag you through life, it's pretty tiring.  The idea is to control your thoughts/emotions/feelings, so you recognize them, but aren't driven by them.  Then your life can be lived more positively, with you in control.  I'm sure you've slept for 8-10 hours and woken up tired??  I suppose it's not the amount of sleep you get, but the quality of it.  Meditation improves the quality.
