Sure it's true, in a perfect world.

I believe it is less and less true, in today's world.  Money, fame, celebrity status, plastic life, all are taking on increasing importance.  Respect can be bought.  Health can be bought (through treatments unavailable if you have no money and which are not covered by insurance).  If health is bought, time can be bought, to a limited extent.  Money buys you a better lifestyle, permitting you to eat better foods, do healthier activities, longer vacations, buying you more time.  Let's not mention love.  Love can be bought.

Why do we look up to Paris Hilton?  Why do millions of people spend millions of dollars and all their time chasing her, photographing her, writing about her??

Money.

The secret to having both happiness and money is to have more money than you need and less than you want.
