    Collective Kitchen

Moncton Headstart has just restarted it's collective kitchen program back up. It is a program that allows people to gather together two days of every month to plan and cook inexpensive and nutritious meals. The cost is very minimal. On day one we read the flyers to see what's on sale then we look at cook books for recipes. We plan three recipes to cook on day two. On day two we gather and start cooking. I really like it and, not being able to cook worth beans, I usually hide by the sink and do the dishes. I have to admit I am a heck of an onion peeler and cutter, though. I have to say I met a lot of nice people there and look forward to it every month. The twelve meals I get tomorrow are well werth the $6.00 I spent today. If anybody wants to check it out the number is 858-8252 and the young lady in charge is named Jose, who has years of experience in the feild of nutrition.

It is a great program. Moncton Headstart also has a food purchasing club where you pay $15.00 a month and usually get between $30.00 and $35.00 worth of groceries back. Sometimes you might get something you don't like. Who cares? You can donate it to the food bank and still come out ahead.

Call 858-8252 and ask for Charlin (Dang, I always forget how to pronounce or spell her name).

Yesterday we made Chicken Pot Pie, Lasagna, Turkey Vegetable Soup, and Garlic Bread. I think I can eat for almost a week from the food I brought home. Cost=$6.00 for almost 2 12 inch chicken pot pies, about 4 pounds of lasagna, almost a half gallon of turkey and vegetable soup, and 6 slices of garlic bread. It is an excellent program especially if you on a very fixed (broke) income.

    Re: Collective Kitchen

I apologize in advance but I have some rather rude questions.

How poor do you have to be to take advantage of the program ? Do you need to be a regular user of Moncton headstart ? Do you need a white card or to be on some kind of assistance ?

You walk around like you're oh so debonair
You pull 'em down and there's really nothing there
I wish you would just be real with me

    Re: Collective Kitchen

Anyone can go. It has never cost me more than $10.00 and as little as $4.50 for both days and a gymbag full of food.

    Re: Collective Kitchen

I thought they were good questions. Also the food purchasing club is a good investment.
