    Poll: Religion, Hindrance or Benefit

    Religion, Hindrance or Benefit
Does anybody here believe that religion, taken in context through History, is ultimatly a benefit to humans or a hindrance to our ultimate evolution?Humans rely on religion to give one hope and faith. However, in a new age of technology, do humans really need religion in order to evolve and grow beyond the scope of a higher being? Not to offend people of religious faith here but discuss above the belt and make it a clean fight.

Religion has always been a means to control the people through fear and aldulation. "you will burn in hell if you don't believe what we do and perscribe to our religion". That has been said since the rise of Xtianity. Every tennent of the church is to control everything about how you live your life. Humanity is better off without religion period.

Funny...before I was religious I felt far worse off than I do now, since I've been a follower of Christ.  Although I'm certainly not perfect.

Re: Poll: Religion, Hindrance or Benefit

Religion in itself does nothing for us, really. I can SAY I'm this or that religion and attend twice a year to keep my name on the roll call. It's Christianity that makes the difference: where people actually practice their beliefs.

Besides ... if you don't believe in God, you have nothing to hope for. Life never gets better, and there is no after-life. That's a pretty depressing thought, to me. I'd rather live as though there is a God, as though Heaven and Hell are real, and risk being wrong than live as if they don't exist and be wrong! Seriously, if religion/Chrisianity offends you, then don't take part ... but I'd rather live with peace and hope than go through life believing this is as good as it gets!

Being of the Heinz 57 denomination I think religion has benefited me. GOD allows me to listen to preaching from all faiths. I don't agree nor disagree with everything I hear but follow what my conscience says is right from listening to other people's ideas. There is not a religion on this earth that is 100% perfect due to humans substituting GOD'S words with their own words conveniently replaced here and there. To me religion is not mindly following ancient rituals but the dedication to better understand and strengthen my relationship with GOD.

Black-white, left-right, yin-yang, good-bad. We are all who we are. Whether religion hinders or benefits us is based on how we accept it and our relationship with GOD.

    I think it's too simple a question.

On a large scale, religions (or people acting in the name of) seem to have done more harm than good.

For individuals it's different. I'm sure people have been comforted by their beliefs without going off and massacring others.

Re: Poll: Religion, Hindrance or Benefit

Well, its a hindrance to those who don't believe and have no interest in it.  But I am sure it is a great benefit to those who do believe.

On a global scale, I would tend to agree with BristolUK.  Seems the only time we hear about religion is when it's the basis for some radical violent attack.  Not to mention the understanding of the proponents of every individual religion that those who don't believe in the same religion are going to hell or its equivalent.

religion and believe in God   are not the same thing  religions (most ofthem) is a way of control and a way to make money for some one  or a group of people ..
as for believing   in God and doing the right things in life that should come automatically ....

because it is said God  is infinitly good so  to me that means we does not really wants us to glorify Him but He does not want us either to glorify anybody or anything else .....He just wants us to live by his comamndments

Dude, how about you reread your post before posting it?  That was horrid!

And to those of us who don't believe, all of that is meaningless.  Which doesn't necessarily mean we don't do the right things.
