    Pollett River

Does anybody know how this year's Pollett River Run went?

    Written Friday:

Tomorrow marks the unofficial start of spring for many in southeastern New Brunswick, when hundreds of makeshift watercraft take to the waters of the Pollett River here early in the morning for the annual Pollett River Run.

Every year, hoards of canoers and boaters of every description embark on what is often described as a mobile party as they float down the river in all manner of floating, sometimes semi-floating and sometimes not floating at all, contraptions, starting at Elgin and ending downstream at the Sanatorium Road.

The run is informal, unorganized and with few rules, however officials note that you must take everything with you when you leave the river, including whatever floating contraption you used to get to the end of the run and all of your garbage, and they remind participants that no oil barrels can be used.

The RCMP remind fun-seekers that they will be on hand again this year to make sure everyone enjoys the run in safety. The Mounties usually increase their presence in the area on the Saturday of the run, including setting up road checks.

I'm going next year for sure.

If I die before then I want my casket loaded up with beer and set afloat down the river.

Is that the dreaded Coleman Rock (famous for eating canoes) in this picture?

That is Coleman Rock. It has been the heartbreak of many Pollett River runs.

    Re: Pollett River

When I go on the river run next year I'm going to pee on that rock as a salute to all the Pollett River floaters who fell prey to that big canoe breaker. Then I'll start floating downstream from the rock.Wink [;)]

Is anybody up for the 2008 Pollett River run? I always wanted to go on it. Every year I plan on going on it but always seem to fall a bit short.
