Thinking of moving to Moncton from UK

    Hi all,

Writing from Lincolnshire England, we are thinking of emigrating to Canada what are job prospects like?  My wife is a Nurse and I work for a Charity that helps disadvantaged young people. Is Canada really a great place to bring up your family /quality of schools, life in general.

Any replies would be gratefully recieved

A Nurse should have no problem finding a job here as the USA  steals them as fast as we get them.

As to quality of life and so on,,I'm not sure where we stand in the ranks , but we are far far from the worst.

Opinions vary depending on who you ask,,even in this Forum.

    You pose an interesting question.....................

Of about 12 families I know that tried it here (Canada), about 1/2 went back, there is not the social life here, that you are used to. It seems to work best is you were to come over in a group, of 3 families, or more, all living close by.
You do realize just how BIG Canada is, right?

I am sure you will find work, your wife will have to re-certify, and if you are not afraid of working you will find something. I am sure that a fellow, so inclined, would find a business opportunity he could develop into money.

If you can get by the social thing, everyone I know that came here from Britain is doing ok, there is such a wide variety of places that I can't specifically say, but with a bit of effort, and looking, you will find a place to "belong". Schools are fine, though about 1-2 years behind you, there are differences within the country itself, and immigrants to the province of Quebec must be educated in French.

There are a fair number of folks from Britain on the west coast and the climate there is a bit closer to what you are used to.

I *guess* you would pick a specific place (maybe getting pre-arrival employment for your wife, there benig a nurses shortage here) and give it a shot.

I'm here from Bristol - as you might guess.

It's a great place - I imagine most of Canada is - to bring up a family. Moncton itself is quite small...more town than city but it's got enough...apart from proper football.

You should also check out this site if you've not already done so.

It's an absolute must for info on Canada and the maze needed to get through to get here.

    Hi Reveeen,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Theres not much of a social life thing going on here in Lincolnshire, very rural ( Breadbasket of UK). so we are used to the 'quiet life' although we don't get much very cold weather.  What depth of snow do you normally get and how difficult is it to get around during the winter?

Just want to give the family a chance of a safer country to live in with better opportunities etc.

It's getting a bit crowded over here, even in the rural counties.

    Cheers
