    Herb Garden

Just because we live in a colder climate doesn't mean you can't continue to grow herbs indoors. If you grow herbs you can pot them and bring them indoors.

Make sure you select a container large enough to accommodate your plant, and allowing room for maximun growth. Make sure to also leave some garden soil on the plant's root ball. Partially fill the pot with potting soil. Set the root ball on top of the soil; fill in around it with more soil. Make sure to water thoroughly. The next step is very important: leave your newly potted plants outdoors in a lightly shaded location for about a week to help them begin acclimating to their new home. Before you bring plants indoors, inspect them thoroughly for insects. Rinse off the foliage to get rid of any pests and avoid later problems.

After bringing your herb plants indoors, you must expect them to adjust during the first few weeks. Don't panick. Plants typically drop a few leaves and grow more slowly. You can help plants acclimate to life indoors and thrive during winter by placing them in a window gets at least six hours of sun daily. Pinch off the tips of stems periodically to stimulate lush growth. Water when the soil feels dry to a depth of 1 inch. Mist the air around plants once a week to boost the humidity level.

The great thing about growing herbs indoors allows you to enjoy fresh-picked herbs all year-round. So as summer ends, transplant herbs from the garden to pots and move them indoors. Select the ones you want, and try to avoid damaging the roots. When spring comes just return them back to the garden. Voila!

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision.

    Re: Herb Garden

    Hi

Most annuals will do ok indoors (flowers and herbs). I keep my geraniums inside all winter and they bloom twice during winter!
