Hi there, I just thought you might like to know this. A friend sent it to me today.

Here is a number for a rebate in HST on our NB Power bills. (8% of the HST paid). I asked and it's for everybody not just the low income. 1-800-669-7070.

It's from July 2006 to November 2006.  We have to call or pick up a form at Service NB in October (we can't get the form now) for the rebate.

They said to keep our bills from July 2006 to November 2006 for a rebate in November and there will be another rebate in April 2007. Anything that will help with high power cost is worth a try.

more paper work  why not just apply the rebate directly  .....

We aren;t too low in income... but a rebate sounds great.

Do you know the income bracket one has to fall under for the rebate to apply?

Income doesn't matter; this particular rebate is for all consumers. The 8% rebate was given by the government to negate the 8% rise.

Clearly it would have been more efficient for NB Power to have programmed their computer to issue bills minus the 8% so that none of us had to pay more and then wait for rebates. Then all they had to do was identify the total of everyone's 8% and receive that amount from the government.

But now we all have to save our bills and then flood the mail system with our applications, then the mail system gets flooded again when the cheques get sent out. Oh yes...and an army of admin staff will have to process all those applications.

It's an admin nightmare instead of a few minutes programming of a computer. I guess they are banking on not everyone applying. But I think the costs of the system they have chosen to use will outweigh any savings in that respect.
