    Lay off by email?

In the states today 500 people were laid off from Radio Shack...The employees were notified of their unemployment via email...

Do you find this cold and tacky or cost efficient and good time management>

I think it is extremely impersonal and is a bad reflection on the company that they brought on themselves..Some things in life should still be done by a live person ...What the hell where they thinking?

    Re: Lay off by email?

E-mail should not be the ONLY form of notification as it is unreliable.

Sounds like good reason to file for a group lawsuit. Any boss who cant face his employees doesn't deserve the authority to be a paper boy. Just my 2 cents worth.

The problem with North America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

    Re: Lay off by email?

Well lets see, are any of us surprised by this? I am not because I do not have my head up my crack. The other day someone asked Stephen Hawking "what is the biggest threat to our plant and he replied: Humans. He also said that computers will take over. This proves the point. Point taken.

The great speculators capitalism wallow in an economy that every years ruins tens of thousands of people lives with poverty in not just the "Third World" but in this so called "First World" -so what is 500 people losing their jobs? Regardless of who carried out the task, this is the legitimate daughter of our culture of deception, hunger and inhumane exploitation.

Anyway, "The Universe in a Nutshell" great book by Stephen Hawking.

    Re: Lay off by email?

I meant my girlfriends crack....Opps did I say that!

The point simply "Sass" is that there is no professional culture left, no loyality. We just do what we want with little or consequences. Laying people off by email is as low as it goes OR maybe one day you go to work, and the building you once worked at has moved, better yet gone out of business. I mean really!!!

    Re: Lay off by email?

Let me just pull my head out of my ass long enough to say...Yes it was bound to happen..hell..it is even cost efficient..so no..I am not overly surprised either...but..still is a cold hearted son of a bi*** thing to do...

ok..I am done now I will return my head to it's proper position...

It's of no consequence to them. As long as the end result is what they desire, they have achieved their goals. Let this the footnote to what we may expect in the future. Depressing.

    Re: Lay off by email?

extremely depressing..like being laid off isn't a pain in the ass enough..people all over the country will be afraid to open their damm email in the morning....There are too many things that can go wrong with the method they are using...the margin for error is too large

I'd rather receive a virus in my e-mail than a pink slip.(unless the pink slip was for a car or truck)

They wouldn't be able to sue. They haven't sustained any damages.

    Re: Lay off by email?

What if a person was on hollidays and didn't read his e-mail for a couple of weeks only to return to a job that expired a couple of weeks before?
