A Truly Canadian Apology to the U.S.

A Truly Canadian Apology to the U.S.

On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America. We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry.

I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron.

He is a moron but it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all it's not like you actually elected him.

I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.

I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.

I'm sorry we burnt down your white house during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's Very Nice.

I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but, we Feel your Pain.

I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you wanna have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.

And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way, which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this. We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.

    Thank you,
    Rick Mercer

Re: A Truly Canadian Apology to the U.S./ A Truly Apology to Canada!

As an American  living here in Canada now for the last 4 years,  I have seen things up here in the  Atlantic part of Canada  that is so different  from  the states.  Have you seen any of these things?  Or are you like so many Canadians  with their heads in the sand and not wanting to see or do any thing about  the bad things here but  have the balls to look at my country and its bad  side only.

I am so sorry that your families are so low in come that they have to look forward to working on the farms up here  such as the strawberry farms, the blueberry farms  etc, to help them with their  incomes because  they can not find any real work up here as we have in the states. Look in to town like Kingston NS, it has nothing, if you go to Halifax you can find jobs there but if you live in the valley of NS  what do you do, the cost of the gas is so high, to go back and forth to Halifax to the valley would be insane. I had worked in these filds and from time to time heard some one call my country this or that but when I had ask them do they go there to the states they will say oh yeah I go to shop or have a piece of land there or go  camping there.  Why then if my country is so damn bad do they go there for any thing? Stay home   stay in your country and  happy with the cost of things here, like milk  over 6.50 a 4 liter , or gas at about .90 a liter, and the  clothes  and pay what 15% tax, where in most states half that if not less and some states dont' have tax on clothes or did you know that? !

I have seen kids working on the farms in the summers where they should have been having fun like any other kid and  all  because they have to pay for books, their locker fees? What  a locker fee? Thats the one that kills me.Uhm [uhm] you have this huge tax up here and then have the gall to make the families that have kids go to school and pay for all kinds of things.  Not in the US, our tax and its so low compare to yours, it pays for the things in the schools that our kids need to have. We hav all kinds of sports in our schools, after school  classes  like music work shopes, or any kind of activites that help to exspand the minds and bodies of the children. I know for a fact that the schools up here don't have music class or art, or any kind of class that helps the child to find their talents in  the arts, such as music such as Mozart or any other great musican, and in   art knowing the difference pop art from  any other kind of art.  If you live in a ruel area of the valley  or near  but in to a places like  Halifax or  Moncton or even  St. Johns  your kids don't have a chance to  get to learn these things. you just go ahead and say all you have to about the US, we love our kids and fight for them  in all kinds of ways. hell even in little towns there you have good libiraes  you have hardley any real good ones unless you live in  big enough area such as New Minas or Turo or Halifax.

Im sorry that your tax up here is so damn hight that when you go to the stores you can see the differenc if you were lucky enough to go to the states and thats why you have so many come from Canada to lets say the other side of Niagra Falls to the states or from NB to Houlton Maine to do the shopping you can't do up here and pay the little tax there, the tax from the states is half of what you pay here no wonder why so many Canadians shop there in Main or up state NY.  The most we pay in the states like NY is only 8 1/2 percent  and you guys pay how much  15% or so  and the tax pays for what? I have seen the roads up here in the Atlantic part of your country ( N.S. and N.B.) that is in such need of road work that its not funny. Do you have any idea of where the tax goes to? Its not for the families to get help with if in need. Sure you have a GST tax check come to you ever quartely but in the long come does it make up for the tax you pay out all the time you have gas put into your car, or the tax you pay for food, clothes, etc?  No not hardley.

Sorry that you must pay for the gas like its  milk  so damn high. A liter is now up too what .92 a liter in NS ( Jan 07)  where in most states maybe its  2.95  a gallon  , you do the math.   4 liters to a gallon.... Its not much difference   but every little bit help & with the gas tax too there is that difference also .

Im sorry that the cost of milk is so damn high that when you go to the store you have to pay out for a gallon  ooopppsss sorry  4 liter milk  6.45  where in the states its about half that, and we can shop around for the better prices even  what they call milk wars so the counsumer can look for a bargin with the gas too, you don't have to pay the same price in all the gas stations, you can shop around and look for a better price,   not here  you all pay the same where  you live.

Sorry that the price of poultry is so high that  you think "they must be  feeding  the birds with gold."!!   Our price of one turkey is the same as  3 of yours, no joke  I have done some shopping in Canada and the US to see the difference in prices. And chicken is just about as bad as the turkeys. How can you feed your family the right foods with the cost of pay so low and the cost of food so damn high?

Im sorry that your jobs here is so bad that your own people find themselves to have to move from the homes they love to be able to surive and to move to the " western area of Canada" and not want to come back   even though the  government of New Brunswick has been trying to "beg them to come Home" and to no avil.

Im sorry that your government was so much of a coward and not fight in the Viet Nam war and back us and a lot of other countries like   geeeeee  the UK to but with the way your military  here  in Canada is with the old   old  planes and guns and all  maybe it was agood thing not to go, hell then we would had to have pull your ass out of the war and sent you home to stay safe. I found out that your government had given all the military a way out and give them such good retirement meney and now come to see that they don't have enought  people to fight if you did need them, nice going Canada. At least when other countries that need help to defend them or to help feed them or any thing  come to us for the help and not too much to yours  why is that?

Im sorry that so many of your good doctors find that they can not make a living up here and they go to the states to work, and leave you all up here with not enough doctors to fill the space of the ones that left. Im sorry that the technoloiges  here for your medical care is not the same as ours and you need to send at times blood samples off to places like NY or your Toranto to get the results and why is that?? Because you don't have the  money or the equiement  to so the work like we do.  Sorry about that.

Yes Im sorry too about my President  Bush, he is an ass but hey we have had some good ones too, and I am sorry that  you have some that arent' all that great either. So now that we have  bashed each others countries  why don't  we  just grow up now and find the good things about each country too.. We are neighbors after all and should be there for each other and not trying to take one another down now. Life is so dann short and we have another problem to face and that is the globle warming, why don't we get to gether and work on that now?

Re: A Truly Canadian Apology to the U.S./ A Truly Apology to Canada!

Wow, Tiggy ... I knew there was something about you that wasn't quite right, and now I know what it is! You're a typically mentally unstable American!

OK ... sorry, that came off the top of my head and wasn't very nice. But what you have to understand about living in Canada is this:

If you're going to live in this great country, LOVE IT! If you're not going to love it enough to overlook its flaws - because every country has them - then get out.

Frankly, we don't give a rat's behind that you had to work in the berry fields. Did you get fresh air? Did you get a suntan? Did you build a few muscles? Then you're better off for it, and any money you made was a fringe benefit.

Do you enjoy our medicare system? It's the grass-roots people who work wherever they can - including berry fields - and pay taxes that cover medicare for immigrants such as yourself.

Don't like the cost of milk? Go live in one of the farming states. Don't care for the price of gas? Join the U.S. military - they'll send you to Iraq where the price of gas is more to your taste. Don't like the price of turkey here? Most of us don't care for the price of lobster in the U.S. Stop whining and pay up or choose another item from the menu. Chicken, for example, is a cheap bird.

It's not our good doctors leaving - it's our greedy doctors. My family doc and her husband - also a doctor - happen to be among the best. They stay because they've raised 4 children here and are willing to look beyond the money they could make in other countries. Some people can't be paid enough to work for arrogant idiots, for lack of a more polite term.

I'm sorry that you've been too lazy to get off your backside and go to a local YMCA where you're sure to find plenty of activities to expand children's minds and bodies. I've personally supervised those activities and taken my children with me, so don't tell me they don't exist.

I'm sorry it pains you to see children working on farms instead of playing. But FYI ... when I was a child, the time I enjoyed most was the time I spent on the farms owned by parents of my friends. Ever thought that the children working on the farms may enjoy interacting with animals? Ever consider the fact that it's better for them than parking in front of a video game or a violent TV show?

But I digress. I'll wrap it up by saying this: Welcome to Canada. Thank us for letting you in. And then love this country or leave it!

Signed with righteous indignation by a proud Canadian!

     Canada

First of all, what was posted was a clip from a popular TV show. Written in sarcasm and intended as humor. In typical American style, you made the independent decision to take it personal. Are you telling me there are no American shows that poke fun at Canada? Better think twice about that ... we've seen it for ourselves.

Secondly, there are a lot of things in life that aren't fair. Get over it. It's not fair that majority of this country is in opposition to gay marriage and yet it became legal. It's not fair that the majority of this country is English, and yet we are forced to learn French for fair treatment in the workplace. It's not fair that the Americans started a war that makes us pay more for gas. It's not fair that immigrants come into this country and trash it. But guess what - IT happens!! We take the good, the bad, and the ugly and we make the best of it. You're free to do the same. Any other choice is yours to make - even if it IS the wrong one.

Re: A Truly Canadian Apology to the U.S./ A Truly Apology to Canada!

I have to  do a lot to live in Canada and its not a easy thing, yes  it is easier then  moving to the US  but its not easy. When your home sick and you miss the things of the states   you pick up on things like the price of gas, food and etc.

    But to say

Wow, Tiggy ... I knew there was something about you that wasn't quite right, and now I know what it is! You're a typically mentally unstable American!   your saying all of the Americans are unstable??  Now thats like saying    all Canadians are   naaaa  im not going to stoop to down to your leavel,

Canada is a beautiful country and so is the states    both are good and both have their problems.

again  im sorry  for   any thing that was a insult to any one. At least  I have the deseny to say im sorry     but did the guy from that  CBC  STATION?  NO HE FELT HE WAS RIGHT TO SAY WHAT HE SAID ABOUT MY COUNTRY.  I GUESS ITS OK TO TAKE CHEAP SHOTS AT  ANOTHER COUNTRY AND NOT CARE IF THEY GET HURT BY IT,   HELL HE'S NOT THERE   AS IM HERE.    ALL I DID WAS TO DEFEND MY OWN JUST BECAUSE IM LIVING HERE DOES NOT MEAN I DON'T SITLL LOVE IT AND WILL DEFEND IT AS AN AMERICAN SHOULD, AND TO  SAY WHAT A LOT OF OTHERS HAVE BEEN SAYING ABOUT THE THINGS MENTION BE FORE.

Complaints can be made without making this country look inferior the U.S.

MY SON IS A SOLIDER AND WAS IN THE 911 THAT WAS BROUGH ON US IN THE STATES, HE SAW THINGS THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE  BEEN.

We've all seen things we shouldn't have since 911. And if your son is a devoted soldier, he must be pretty proud of his family members leaving the country he's defending.

YES  I DID SEE THE KIDS GETTING FRESH AIR OUT THERE BUT THEY WERE THE ONES COMPLAINING ABOUT THE WORK  SO WHAT SHOULD ONE THINK.

Wait a minute: I thought you said the workers in the berry fields were there to substitute their meager earnings. Now they're teenagers - as in students? And go figure that teenagers whose parents force them off their arses for a couple weeks would complain. I say that's some good parenting! I'd expect to hear the teenagers moan about it! Maybe if they'd grown up on a farm - *gasp!* - they'd be used to a good day's work!

Wow, Tiggy ... I knew there was something about you that wasn't quite right, and now I know what it is! You're a typically mentally unstable American!

I'd understand more than you think. We all understand homesick. What we don't understand is how homesick translates into trashing people who are known world-wide for their hospitality. Yes, I mean Canadians - more specifically, Maritimers!

Still proud to be a Canadian. Only way I could feel better about it is if I were a Newfie!  Maple Leaf

SOME SAY   IF ONE IS WILLING TO SAY THEY ARE SORRY AND MEAN IT   AND I DO THEN THE OTHERS SHOULD   JUST LET IT GO.

BUT YOU ARE A HATEFUL PERSON, IM TRYING TO ASK FOR FORGIVNESS   BUT THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORK....

I WAS WILLING TO TRY TO FIND MYSELF  LOOKING AT THINGS DIFFERENTLY  BUT  NOW????????

OH BY THE WAY  IT WAS KIDS  DOING WORK AT THE AGE OF LESS THEN  10  FYI.

and you're surprised, notme, because??? Stick out tongue [:P]

Tiggy, FYI ... I was writing that second post while you were posting your apology. So I didn't see yours before posting again.

And kids under the age of 10 in the berry fields is a new concept to me, but I STILL wouldn't be surprised to hear them complain about heat and bugs and working while their friends are in air conditioned daycares or homes watching TV. And kids under 10 are STILL not people subsitituting meager wages, are they?!
