The China Coast restaurant and take out opened its doors this week and quickly attracted a number of patrons anxious to try their Cantonese style Chinese meals and all-you-can-eat buffets surrounded by an inviting atmosphere.
The China Coast is located in the Atcan Centre near Wheeler Boulevard along a busy Mountain Road that owner Ken Situ hopes will bring in lots of business.
The 3,000-square-foot restaurant with seating capacity for 86 patrons had been in the works since last fall. The family has two other China Coast restaurants, one in Saint John and the other in Quispamsis, that have been operating for several years now. The family moved to New Brunswick from Hamilton where they had a restaurant business.
A long-established restaurant in Campbellton by the same name is not connected to the Moncton business.
There had been plans for an official opening yesterday but the restaurant got too busy and the decision was made to hold off, possibly next Thursday, said restaurant manager Heidi Tian. News of the opening travelled quickly, she said. The restaurant currently employs 10 people and is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.
The restaurant offers an extensive menu along with the hot and cold buffets at noon and supper time with Chinese foods and salads and fruits on Monday through Wednesday and seafood during the rest of the week.
